Mr. Funnel Cake and I had walked to the Restaurant Rigiblick on a very sunny day in July ’10 when we decided it was where we would like to have our intimate Zivilstand dinner. As we sipped 20CHF smoothies in the broiling sun, we asked them if we could reserve a table at the edge of the balcony to enjoy the view over Zürich.
On the actual day however, not one of us wanted to sit outside in the disturbingly frigid August weather. Instead, we huddled inside and ordered a stunning multi-course meal that included treats like wasabi ice cream. (Drool)

Best meal I’ve ever had in Zürich!
During the meal I noticed an odd pattern of languages bouncing around that looked something like this:
Mr. Funnel Cake’s father was talking to my parents in English; Mr. Funnel Cake, his brother and his mother were jabbering away in Portuguese; I was translating MIL FC’s High German into English for Mama Funnel Cake and vice-versa; FIL Funnel Cake and his sons were talking in Züridütsch (their Swiss German dialect) and somehow we all managed to keep up with the conversation.
Then it was gift time. Mama Funnel Cake gave Mr. Funnel Cake a book of silly English phrases illustrated for children. Study up Mr. FC! There might be a test this October.
After we wrapped up dinner, we took a few more pictures outside on the balcony where we were supposed to have eaten.
It’s pictures like this where I wish I could stick my finger in and push my glasses back up on my nose. These pictures alone are why I’ve gotten contacts for the wedding. (Mind you, I’m only showing the good ones here!)
Then it was time for Mr. Funnel Cake to depart for his interview. That’s right, he had a job interview ON OUR WEDDING DAY. (Did you notice I used the big W-word there?) He was supposed to have the interview the day before, but the employer canceled and asked him if Tuesday was OK. Mr. Funnel Cake checked with me if this was alright, and I begrudgingly said “yes” because I knew he really wanted this job and I needed time alone to try on my Craigslist wedding dress anyway.
I told Mr. Funnel Cake that if he didn’t get this job he’d be in deep doo-doo for skipping out on me on such an important day. I was kind of bummed that I was using my three days of “marriage leave” from my employer to spend time with my parents around Switzerland and Mr. Funnel Cake was working and didn’t even take the whole day off for our Zivilstand. *Sniff*
With Mr. Funnel Cake on his way, we headed back to my flat without him so I could play dress up.
Did you wish your fiance could have taken more time off around your wedding day?

(P.S. Mr. Funnel Cake totally got that job!)
