Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.

Drowning on Dry Land

July 21st, 2011 @ 2:35 pm by Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Lookie lookie what I found! I was at Michaels the other day searching for lord only knows what, and what should I spy in the dollar bin?

Striped straws in our wedding colors! For only four dollars, I got 400 straws in our wedding colors.

The blue is more sky blue than navy, but anyone running for their lives would never notice. These would be delightful for the cocktail hour or perhaps the rehearsal/welcome/birthday party.

I had my heart set on barber straws like these:

However, they are $21 for only 150 straws. While the barber-striped straws are all the rage at weddings right now, I don’t think any of my guests will know that they are getting regular stripes instead of barber stripes.

I think I should just keep the bendy straws and call it a day. It is not exactly what I envisioned, but it will definitely give the effect I want. Agreed?

Did you purchase anything for your wedding that was slightly different from what you envisioned?

Great deal! I ordered barber straws from a little shop in Maine. I think they were about $5 for 140 - by far the least expensive from anywhere I’ve looked. It was so nice because they shipped them to me (I live in Canada) that day, for only exactly what it cost to mail. No one else understands my fascination with stripey straws, but they’re so pretty :)

I just discovered yesterday that a local store has barber pole striped straws in red, blue, and gray for $6 for 144 and it looks like you can buy them online. http://Www.Richardsvarietystore.com.

Ooh! I might have to swing by there after work… I wonder if they have grey striped ones. Thanks for the tip!

I do that in Michaels all.the.time :) I have to stop myself from going in just because I’m in the neighborhood - lol!

I think if you are okay with it, then it works. There were some great affordable suggestions from PPs, though sometimes it feels good just to cross something off the list, ya know?

Trish - Being from Maine as well, I’d love to know where you ordered them from, too! :)

Agreed! Great deal!! I love when you’re just wandering around shopping, not knowing what you’re looking for, and then you find The Thing. That always seems to be when that happens!

@rchrdsn09, @organicgal - Sure! I got them from Rock Paper Scissors in Wiscasset, Maine. I don’t think they have a website (they’re really small from what I gather, but I read that they have a super cute shop). I just called the store (207-882-9930) and asked what colours in the paper straws they had and if they could mail them to me. I got them in grey/white and blue/white and they are sooooo nice!!
