Decision One: Made

July 21st, 2011 @ 4:09 pm by Mrs. Honey

I’m hoping I was like all some newly engaged gals when I say that, even though I had only been engaged for a mere couple hours, my mind was instantly in wedding mode.

For me, setting the date the night we got engaged was priority one two three. I called my parents (priority one), and called my best friend (priority two), MOH Honey. After asking how Mr. H proposed, and then of course congratulating us, the first question my parents and MOH Honey asked us was when…when will we get married?! The date is so important; everything revolves around the date. I know that is the first question I ask newly engaged peeps. I guess it’s an attempt to know how soon (or far away) the date is. Are we talking next month or next year? The date is a pretty big deal.

So, we sat down after drinking our celebratory champagne and discussed the date, very very lightheartedly. I knew this: we already had four friends getting married in summer 2011. These four ladies were engaged before me, and I did not feel comfortable tromping in and squeezing our wedding in between ones that had already been set. We wanted to be different, provide something different. And that’s when decision one was made: we will have a winter wedding!

Let’s indulge in some winter and snowy wedding goodness.

We instantly had our hearts set on a winter wedding in the Colorado mountains. Being that we got engaged in August, we decided to take the long-engagement route and, rather than push ourselves to plan a wedding in five months, we would take 17 months. Picking the date in January 2012 involved nothing more than looking at what the dates were on Saturdays and picking my favorite. Super technical and special, heh? Since we didn’t have our hearts set on any particular date, this worked the best for us, and even though there wasn’t a lot of thought process behind the decision, I love the way the dates look together. Easy peasy, on to the next step…

Did you just pick a date because the numbers looked good together, or were you lucky enough to have sentiment behind the big date?! Who else is loving the offbeat season of winter weddings?

a) LOVE those pictures, I am so excited to see how your plans develop, I adore the idea of a winter wedding!
and b) i heart you. I thought I was the only person who not only chose but SWITCHED our date (TWICE!) because I didn’t like how the numbers looked together!!! And seriously, that’s basically the entire rationale behind our actual date - the numbers look good together and make mathematical “sense” (to my crazy brain, anyway - thankfully, Mr. PP indulges me in my crazy!)

We chose New Year’s Eve to accommodate our favorite holiday and our hope for a wintertime wedding.

We chose our date because it was early May (FH can’t do late May…work’s at a school at IT person…graduation time is busy busy!) and we couldn’t do late April because of family conflicts…so Cinco de Mayo it is. I was actually excited because i thought the 5-5 would be cool!

We’re getting married on our 7 year anniversary. It meant a long engagement (22 months!) But we’re already halfway there and I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone by!

I love winter weddings! Unfortunately, around here “snow” doesn’t really happen–everything’s just gray and brown. (Seattle.) So having a winter wonderland wedding was out of the question for us, and we’re going with summer.

Final date will probably depend on venue availability. I was hoping for the 4th of July (our anniversary), but everything’s more expensive then–totally destroys the savings we were hoping to get from a weekday wedding.

We chose our date to be between the Memorial Day Holiday and the Labor Day Holiday. We didn’t want to impose on anyone’s holiday plans and plus its the day before Father’s Day 2012. My FI lost his father this past January and I know that it will be a time that we can feel most connected with his father eventhough he is no longer with us. And an added bonus my parent got married in the month of June so it kinda be an anniversary celebration for them as well.

We chose our date because it was close enough but far enough away and fit with our weird schedules at the time. (I was in school part time and could only do things during semester breaks… but I’ve since stopped doing the PT school thing while I focus on work so… there ya go!). And I love the way winter weddings work! We just don’t have a winter here so boo.

I love winter weddings, if I lived close to the snow I would have totally gone that route! We didn’t have our hearts set on a date either so when our favorite venue was booked all of May-July we looked at September and I noticed 9-10-11…yes please!

I love winter weddings (which is why we had one too!). But I was very happy not to have snow as that would have made everything a little bit crazy (high winds and trees down was enough for me). Can’t wait to see the snow in your pictures though!

I think winter wedding pictures are so pretty! I doubt we would have had any beautiful snow pictures down here in Texas though.

Gorgeous photos! But… I’m so not a winter person! LOL!
We both wanted an outside wedding and we were going to do earlier in April to try and coincide with Spring Break, but realized too many people we’d want to come will be doing family Easter stuff, so we picked the weekend AFTER Easter. :) Besides, the weather is supposed to better after Easter.

I adore winter weddings, part of me is still a little sad we decided not to go that route!

I love snowy pictures! I don’t remember why we picked our date, other than it didn’t conflict with Mr. Hyena’s grad school.

@ThePinkPeony: im the same way, the numbers just went together!

@Mrs. Eggs Benedict: I am LOVING your recaps and totally realized you had the winter wedding, just minus the snow :)

Yay for so many winter wedding fans, hope mother nature will deliver a fresh snow the day before :)

When I first thought about our date I was thinking spring because it’s my favorite season. Then, in talking with my mom found out that her wedding date was on a Saturday in June in 2011. Since my father had passed away when I was young, I thought having my wedding on what would have been their 45th wedding anniversary was the best way to remember my dad and make it even more special for my mom. So, crazy wedding filled June 25th was our wedding date.

Crazy side note, my hubby and I had a 17 month long engagement as well!!

I’m so impressed with how quickly you Honeys made that decision! When I got bombarded with the “when will you get married?” questions, I was all, “puh-leeze, I’m too busy enjoying being engaged to think about that!” We initially wanted to go the long engagement route as well (about 21 months), but then life happened, and we bumped up our date by a year (ahh!). It still seems crazy, but I know we’ll be so happy with our decision when we’re finally married!

@Miss Honey: I bet we have the same date! I always knew I wanted a winter wedding — but we went back and forth for a while on whether we should have a December or January wedding. Once we decided on January, we did the same thing you did, took a look at the Sats and picked the one with the best number combination! Look forward to reading all about your planning!
