About Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

From 0 to 4 Polishes

July 22nd, 2011 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

After getting my nails done for the wedding, I realised that I really like having nicely done nails. For the wedding, I just had a very natural French manicure done, but one of my bridesmaids had hot pink polish put on. I think it looked extra-good because she had her nails trimmed quite short, so they were just little pops of colour. Then, I saw this photo on Pinterest via Design Crush:

And I had to do it!

The funny thing is that I rarely wear nail polish! I might get a pedicure once a year, and that is about it. But, I enjoyed being pampered before the wedding, and being unemployed, I certainly have the time to give myself a manicure!

I do have a few shades of nail polish, so I tried it with what I had at home:

These are seriously all the nail polishes I own! Pale blue for the base coat, a bright pink and coral orange that are very similar and a pale lilac are the spots. To do the spots, I grabbed a toothpick. My plan was to cut one of the pointy ends off and use that flat round surface as a dabber, but apparently the last time we bought toothpicks, they only came with one pointy end so I didn’t even need to get out the scissors!

It’s a little crazy to go from almost no nail polish ever, to crazy designs, but every time I look down at my nails I smile.

Might you get creative with nail polish for your wedding day?

Your inspiration pictures would work well for my wedding- you’re making me think about it, Cinnamon Bun!

I rarely paint my nails these days, but when I was in Junior High I painted them all the time. I had a million colors and did little flags for Independence Day and even little turkeys on Thanksgiving!

The first pic looks kind of like this CakeGirls creation found via the Martha. Love this cake and that design! If I had a bit more chutzpah I’d do it in my colors for the wedding too!

How cool! I think I might have to experiment with this too. In the meantime, I’m still waiting for my wedding Shellac to grow off…

Hyena- if you want the Shellac off, just soak them in acetone for about 10 minutes. It’ll come right off….

oooooo, I MUST try this! In high school, I was known for my nail polish collection. My job is a little too professional so maybe I’ll sneak it onto my toes!

@Mrs. Hyena: Second what Miss Root said. Be gentle and patient or else you can tear up your nail bed.

Oh, I have GOT to try this! I rarely wear nail polish and never had my nails done before the wedding, but like you, once pampered I realized how nice it is to have beautifully painted nails.

This is so fun! It’s a little too wild for my wedding, but maybe for my bachelorette in a few weeks.

I like!!!!
Of course, nail polish is one of two types of “make up” I wear. The other being lipstick, but I’m soooo picky about that, I rarely EVER wear it, lol. Of course, I don’t often wear nail polish anymore, either, because my daughter is now 5 and wants HER nails done, too. (I fear her teenage years… I really do…)

my japanese nail artist does lots of fun trendy designs on me with her calgel and 3D art! ever since i’ve been engaged, i’ve been trying new wedding ones. will probably do this until the wedding and then go back to my favorite! btw, i never really wore nail polish until about age 25 and now i’m feeling spunky enough for designs. i love looking at the cynful nails website for inspiration…most are a little too out of control for me but i could look forever!

Love this! The aqua and red would’ve been perfect for my wedding day as they were my colours.
