Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

With our first dance out of the way, our guests were able to get cozy at the reception. The variety of seating allowed everyone to choose a place where they felt most comfortable. As you might guess, our friends mostly chose the lounge furniture, while our older guests and family members gravitated toward the more traditional tables and chairs.

I know a lot of brides don’t end up eating much at their own weddings, and I can totally see how that happens, especially without a formal seated dinner. King Hippo and I ate a little bit as soon as our first dance was over, but it wasn’t long before people were stopping by to visit or say hello. I made sure to have a little bit of the amazing food we had picked out (mac ’n’ cheese bar? yes, please!), but I definitely didn’t get to enjoy it as much as if I were a guest. But… what can you do? We were busy visiting with our friends and family.

Before I knew it, our DOC came to tell us it was time for toasts. First up was the best man, who has known King Hippo since they were in elementary school together. He had written a very sweet poem, incorporating a lot of the history between the guys into it.

Sister Hippo was next. She is a really good public speaker so I wasn’t surprised when her toast was amazing—as sweet and touching as it was funny.

King Hippo and I then thanked our guests for coming and gave a special shout-out to several friendors who had made our wedding way more amazing than our budget would allow. It definitely helps to have connections, but our friendors really went above and beyond!

And with eating, drinking and toasting complete…. it was time to boogie! And these Hippos like to get down!

Love the idea of incorporating lounge furniture as part of the seating for dinner. It is so modern and contemporary.
