About Mrs. Teacup

A few weeks after choosing my e-ring (backstory here), Mr. Hot Tea and I vacationed in Cabo. My bestie speculated that a proposal might be in the works, but I knew it was probably too soon.

Nevertheless, we had the best vacation ever! Surfing, sunning, and relaxing were the only activities on the agenda…

And I got to practice my surf photography!

Yet there was still plenty of time to “get wet.”

Mission accomplished. I’ll admit only ONE mistake that thankfully ended happily. Suckered into a timeshare presentation, we spent precious surfing time at nonexistent hotel property so we could get the freebies—a jet-ski excursion, glass-bottom boat ride…you know the drill.

Seriously, hard hats required!

This was the first and only time I think Mr. HT wanted to shake sense into my head, haha! Four hours later we cried “never again!” and with vouchers in hand made haste to the nearest beach.

One coupon claimed $100 credit at Diamonds International jewelry store. If you’re a skeptic like me, you’ll appreciate the need to adventure in to see what you can buy for a benjamin. And just as I suspected, there was nothing. But…

As luck would have it, Mr. HT fell in LOVE with a watch in the case. I lapped all the displays twice as he OOHHed and AAHHed over this timepiece. It had all the features he wanted and was unlike any in his collection. He couldn’t take it off and wouldn’t stop gazing at its beauty. Alas, he sighed that he couldn’t buy it because he was saving for my ring.

Aha! Are you thinking what I was thinking? Exactly. I offered to buy the watch for Mr. HT with the condition that he could wear it once we were properly engaged. If I get to wear a sparkly ring, what’s to say that Mr. HT can’t sport an engagement watch?! In fact, the more I thought about it, it only seemed fair that he should have some bling to show off as well. Plus, the devil on my shoulder couldn’t help but think it could be incentive. A little bribery never hurt, right?

Apparently and unbeknownst to me, man-gagement presents are all the rage. There’s a post from Mrs. Nachos about the man-gagement watch she gifted her DH here. And, Mrs. Hot Cocoa raised the bar with a man-gagement ring. Very cool.

So we left Cabo with sun-kissed skin, lots of rest, and a gorgeous watch that Mr. HT would have to wait four months to wear. Which really only meant that I had to continue to wait (sometimes not so patiently) for my Tiffany treasure.

Doesn’t he look happy and handsome?

What do you think about gifting your beloved to commemorate the engagement? What did or would you choose to present?

Love the idea of a man-gagement present. It’d never fly with the practical, beats-on-everything-he-owns Mr. PaC!

I think a man-gagement present is a great idea! Mr. Tartlet quite fancies watches, so I likely would have gone that route, too. :) He also would appreciate any upgrades to his computer or car, but I know nothing of these things!

Ever since I got my ring mine has been busting me for his gift…a Mark V life size deep sea diver helmet replica. I’ve joked about getting a groom’s cake made into one but I will get it….eventually. The place is a little too bachelor-ized and ‘under the sea’ for me now. Will need to wait until we get a place with a man cave or garage he can decorate in all his Cousteau regalia :)

I got my sweetie an man-gagement ring :) When we first started talking about rings he asked “why does only the girl get a gift ? I explained that it wasn’t always that way and if he wanted and engagment gift I would get him one. My first thought was a watch but he said he had many watches and wanted something else so I got him a ring :) He loves it

I got my guy a new “Man Chair”. He’s a sports writer who works from home so his hideous overworn leather recliner needed a MAJOR updated. I got him a new modern version that I love in our living room and he loves to sit in WINNING! I also paid for our engagement photos to be taken at fenway park as a gift to him (I really love my honey and my ring)..plus how cool are engagement pics at fenway? I feel bad because I def benefited a bit from both gifts lol but he loves them.

I got my husband a watch when we got engaged, apparently its the traditional mangagement gift…but since he’s a runner, and not a watch guy at all, I got him a crazy cool GPS watch that tells him where he went, heart rate, elevation and so forth. He loved it, and wears it every day! Even though it’s not an heirloom, I know it made him happy.

@Miss Seal: Aww, thanks :) Our guys have something in common!

@Mrs. Pain au Chocolat: LOL :)

@Mrs. Elephant: He was so excited to get a present, too!

@Miss Honey: I wish I was creative enough to come up with it :)

@Mrs. Tartlet: Haha, HT might have loved a new surfboard just as much, but he can’t tote that around with him everyday. Watches, computers and cars - classy Mr. Tartlet!
