About Mrs. Macarons

Angora, Party of Ten

If you recall my inspiration board, I really liked the idea of animal illustrations instead of traditional table numbers. I envisioned cute pencil and watercolors of different rabbits sort of like this:

However I couldn’t find enough given the number of tables we’d need. It’s been years since I’ve painted anything, but I busted out some watercolors and gave it a go. My results were, um…less than stellar. It wasn’t quite this bad, but you get the idea:

I was frustrated and threw together some table numbers in illustrator just for kicks. I had planned on giving the watercolors another good old college try, but I was really happy with my results. I used the same pattern and colors from our invites as well as a darker purple for a little more variety. The font is Burgues Script, which was also used to address our envelopes.

The illustrations would have been too much for these cute little frames. I’m not sure what I was originally thinking.

Has your inspiration changed at all during your planning process?

I love the first illustration, but I also love what you came up with! I seriously have so many awesome ideas that I quickly realize I cannot execute.

I love the patterned background colors with those frames! Great alternative, too. As much as I love the illustrations, I think they would have competed too much with the frames and ended up looking a bit kitschy. The numbers look fab!

Those are super-cute, I think a very acceptable alternative to the perky (although also very cute) watercolors idea!

I love, love, love the pattern/fabric in the background of your frames. They turned out great even without the cute bunny prints!

I realize this post may not be active…but I thought I’d give it a try.

I too plan on using Burgues Script to address the outer mailing envelope, as well as the RSVP envelope.

Has anyone had issues with the USPS using this font for mailing? I’d like to be sure this will work prior to getting my invitation suite off to the printer! Wouldn’t want anything to get lost in the mail!

@jaime: I only had issues with 3 invites out of the 100 or so we sent.

One was sent internationally and never made it although a few others made it to the same country with no problems. Another was returned to to me for an incorrect address, and one never made it to my BIL (he received the 2nd one though).

Are you designing them yourself? I’d make use of some of the alternate glyphs if you think a particular word is hard to read. It also doesn’t hurt to have a few extras made just in case :)
