Mrs. Funnel Cake, Zürich, Switzerland/Columbus, Ohio Age and Occupation: 24, Visual Communication Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Application Engineer Engagement Date: May 30, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Catholic church followed by a botanical conservatory About Me: I'm an American designer who moved to Switzerland for love after a fairytale beginning at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I love travel, photography, museums, learning German so I can speak with my mother-in-law, cooking (eating), cuddling, and I'm not afraid to try something new even if it terrifies me. My Swiss/Brazilian man and I are both down to earth people planning a traditional Catholic wedding in my hometown with some quirky cultural exceptions to reflect our different backgrounds. About Mrs. Funnel Cake

After lunch with our parents, we got to what was probably my favourite part of the whole day. Legally marrying Mr. FC was fun and all, but I was about to try on my wedding dress!

When Sabelle arrived in Columbus, Ohio from Naples, Florida, Mama Funnel Cake confirmed that she was indeed “shortened” from the inside, and Mama FC had carefully removed the stitching to return the dress to its original length. Still… I was nervous that she might not fit my 5’9″ frame.

Crumpled up in a surprisingly small duffle bag, my dress travelled 4342miles (6988km) as my father’s carry-on to reach me. I had purchased a 4-ring hoop skirt from eBay for $30 that Mama FC brought with her on the plane as well.

Papa Funnel Cake told us he was “going for a walk” when we got near my flat and he headed in the opposite direction like there was no tomorrow. He felt that this was “girl time” and he wanted to give me as much privacy as possible.

At home I stripped off my Zivilstand dress and threw on the corset bra that sister Funnel Cake wore to her wedding. I’m not sure she knows I even have her bra, but she left it in our house when she moved out so I’ve claimed it as mine. :)

We fumbled with the hoop skirt and into the dress I went!

Mama FC had also brought my sister-in-law’s veil so we tried that out too.

The veil matches—and look, I can wear my modest heels!

So… bees, I’m in love. She’s the most perfect, fluffy cupcake dress ever and she fits me like a DREAM. Seriously… no hemming required; we just adjusted the hoops in the underskirt and I can wear my 2″ heels. Corset back= NO alterations! The only thing we planned was a bustle for the train which Mama Funnel Cake can sew. The best part is that I ended up sticking with the $1000 budget I pulled out of the air. *Pats self on back*

After one more long look, I tucked Sabelle away to go back with Mama Funnel Cake to America. *sniff* Our Zivilstand day was ending and it would be a long time before I would see my gown again.

She’s beautiful and you look beautiful in her!:-)

Plus a high-five for another under $1,000 bride… Although I can say that I stayed under $700 for my dress but that is neither here nor there.
