Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich's Picture
Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJ Age and Occupation: 28, School Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate Athletics Engagement Date: March 27, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Congress Hall Hotel About Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Me giving advice on being organized is like Kim Kardashian telling you she prefers small engagement rings. But somehow I am going to forge ahead like I am sure Kim is doing with her 20-carat sparkler.

There are a couple of tricks I use to stay organized for the wedding. (Now if only I could carry these over to my daily life.) The first and most popular is the wedding binder.

Printed out calendar for due dates/appts

I have a little pencil case in mine with pens and thank you notes. I also love the divider tabs with pockets on them so I can save all the inspiration I tore out of magazines. My tabs are pretty standard, but they include: guest list, budget, to-do lists (get to that in a minute), my attire, his attire, flowers, Congress Hall, sound, registry, and before & after (rehearsal dinner and next-day brunch). I am sure there are a couple I am leaving out, but that is why I have my handy Moleskin journal…

At the ripe old age of mid 20s, I am already beginning to forget things/lose my mind. I carry the journal around with me in my purse, and whenever I think of anything I have a place to write it down. I blame my bridal brain, but this little book helps me to remember where I saw those invitations/napkins/programs I loved.

And finally I have the All in One Wedding Planner from Style Me Pretty in Google docs. Google docs is the best! Seriously, if you haven’t checked out their template gallery do it now! I will wait.

The wedding planner has everything. I know they are kind of tough to see, but along the bottom of the pages are all kinds of tabs for everything you need to plan the wedding.

And since it is from Style Me Pretty, there are all kinds of helpful hints on each page. Mr. Cucumber Sammie and I both have Gmail accounts, so I can share it with him and he can edit his own damn guest list. Teamwork! My favorite page right now is the music page where I can jot down all my ideas for our wedding music.

The piece de resistance to my wedding organization is the to-do list! I heart to-do lists. I know this makes me sort of weird, but I just love crossing things off and having a nice list of what I have to do even if I manage to avoid doing it. I enjoy physically crossing things off, so every week I type up and print this list. I have three parts to my to-do list; wedding, chores, and other. Under each header are subcategories and then I list what I have to do. This is probably really confusing, so it would be better if I just showed you…

Ta-da!

Under “Wedding” there is “Ongoing,” “Upcoming,” and “This Week.” If you know me in real life you know that there is no way I could possibly get all this stuff done. So, yes, I will admit that some of those things have been on the to-do list for weeks or maybe even months.

There you have it. All the things I pretend to use to help me be organized about the wedding. They say the best organization system is the one you actually use.

Am I missing anything? Anyone else as excited as me about to-do lists?

Hehe, I don’t know if we’re excited about it… but we just made a “single digits to do list” now that we’re under 100 days. And we put it in our handy blue wedding note book. ;)

I feel like we’re the exact same person! Your organizational set-up is EXACTLY the same as mine. I have the binder, the moleskin journal, the same google docs and a very similar to-do list. It is an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction when you can check something off. I like to keep an ongoing electronic copy of it and use the “draw-a-line-through-it” option :) It makes me beyond happy.

omg. I finally feel as though my organizational habits are normal! I am mid-20’s and I carry a notebook in my purse to jot things down, too! Not just wedding related, either!

Also, thank you for showing a good example of a wedding binder. My supplies have been sitting on the coffee table for a few days, waiting for inspiration to put them together.

I big time heart google docs, it makes everything so easy! And you can access stuff at work (on breaks of course)!

I wish I had taken advantage of Google Docs more when I was planning–it’s such a convenient share site!

I definitely used Google Docs… to share shower guest list, our master guest list with addresses, etc. Very useful tool :) And my wedding binder was very similar to yours. No fancy planner, but blank calendars and pocket dividers with lined paper in between for notes. I had to keep ‘cleaning it out’ as we went because I kept everything! I do still have it somewhat intact :)

I’m on my way to look for the Style Me Pretty planner to incorporate with Google docs :) I usually like To-Do lists but can’t get into them with wedding planning, and that is like the epitomy of To Do lists!!

@Miss Pony: Uh, yeah… of course… on breaks only. :)

I love this post because it speaks to the organization freak in me! If enjoying the act of crossing things off a list is weird, I don’t wanna be normal.

I have a wedding binder that initially held my ideas, but now mostly serves as a repository for the contracts and random other paperstuff (a sample of the invitation, stamps, etc.). I am sooooo 2011 and make little notes in my BlackBerry, simply because I cannot jot down ideas in a book and have any hope of finding them easily later on. *hangs head in creative mind fail shame*

And I LOVE the Google wedding template! I totally modified the budget tab and made a second one of just my budget (bridesmaids gifts, random crafts, jewelry, etc) and one of our joint budget. I also added a to-do tab and a shopping tab. I totally stole the format of the to-do section from Ms. Ferris Wheel (http://www.weddingbee.com/2011/05/31/wedding-online-organizer/).

But I think Miss Meerkat had the holy toledo of all planning spreadsheets!

I have to get style me pretty planner and start using google docs. I use my iPad for everything. It’s my note pad, inspiration pics, research, to do list, and all my wedding apps.

I’m a list-lover! Your system is freakishly similar to mine, down to the binder and moleskine journal :) Are you my long lost sister?

@Miss Teacup: Possibly. Do you fill the moleskine journal about half way and then decide you need a new one in a prettier color… because I do!

@Miss Ladyfingers: Meerkat’s list totally scared me but I am still in awe .
