About Mrs. Pony

A Tale of Menswear

July 27th, 2011 @ 6:45 pm by Mrs. Pony

Once upon a time when Mr. and Miss Pony started upon this wedding planning journey, Miss Pony told Mr. Pony that he could have full control over his wedding day attire. Knowing that Mr. Pony has solid fashion sense, she relinquished control over this decision and waited for Mr. Pony to show her some amazing fitted suits that would show off his long and lean figure.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pony made the lazy easy decision to rent tuxedos from a national chain store without so much as entertaining the idea of what the Pony wedding colors are or doing any form of research whatsoever.

While she knew Mr. Pony would look dashing in a tuxedo, Miss Pony’s heart was a little broken that the men in their bridal party would not be sporting custom fitting suits. It’s not that tuxes don’t look nice, Miss Pony just knew that when it came to her long and lanky man, the standard tux typically makes him look kind of boxy. But, seeing as she decided long, long ago that Mr. Pony called the shots on the menswear, Miss Pony kept her mouth shut and nodded in agreement with his decisions.

One day Mr. and Miss Pony trotted over to a national store that carried a variety of menswear, including tuxedos to rent and a variety of suits so that the men of the Pony wedding could be outfitted. After looking at the choices for tuxes to rent, Mr. Pony was unimpressed both by style and cost. And, for what he did find, Miss Pony could not hide her displeasure; colored vests reminded her more of high school dances than a wedding celebration and it simply had to be stopped. Miss Pony ever so subtly hinted that a gray three piece suit would be a perfect alternative to the tuxedo Mr. Pony had previously desired.

And then, in a moment of clarity, Mr. Pony decided that suits were the way to go. Not only were they better suited (tee hee) for his figure, but for the cost of a rental, the Pony men will get to keep their suits and wear them well into the future.

The final suit choice, modeled by Mr. Pony:

Mr. Pony: “Seriously, another picture?”

The groomsmen’s suits will be accented by a lovely deep red tie similar to the one worn by Mr. Pony, while he will wear a green and white tie to stand out from the pack.

With the suits purchased and sent to the Pony groomsmen, the Ponies can live out their menswear lives happily every after. The end.

Was your menswear decision a tall tale or one for the ages?

Omg your story is much like I feel like mine is turning out. I want suits so so bad but it looks like Mr. O will be going with the tuxes as well. Where did you get your 3 piece suits? They look great!

I love the idea of the guys purchasing their suits. It runs about the same as rentals so why not! I am so pushing for this and I am no where near as subtle as you.

Nice! I left it up to Mister. I knew he wasn’t going to do a suit - it’s not in his or his guys’ budget. He ended up getting a free tux rental for a certain number of party rentals ;) But he made a good choice even though I was nervous about it!

Agh! I am having SUCH a hard time with the menswear and the wedding is 7 weeks away! The suits are ordered however still unsure about the accessories. I have a bold burgundy sash on my dress and so I want him to have some color somewhere to match… Trying to decide between him having burgundy vest with white tie and pocket silk with the boys having burgundy vest and burgundy tie with no pocket silk… OR him having a white vest with burgundy tie and white pocket silk and the boys having black vest with burgundy tie and no pocket silk… Please help if you can… unless of course I am beyond help at this point, which is entirely possible! Ugh!

Mr. D also did the national chain route, much to my disappointment. But he felt it was necessary since his groomsmen are spread out all over the country. I know he will still look handsome, just not custom handsome!

@brobi011: Men’s Wearhouse!
@secondchances: Ha, yeah, I’m actually not subtle at all. I pretty much tell Mr. P what I think (or my facial expression does)
@Miss Ladyfingers: That’s awesome he got his for free!
@The Future Mrs OSA: I’m sorry you’re having so many problems with accessories. Both options sound dashing, but if they’re wearing black tuxes, I would go with the first option. I try to keep things simple and streamlined and add a pop of color where appropriate. Hope that helps!
@Miss Doily: Yeah, the national chain route was a must with two in TN, one in Florida, Mr. P in IL and his brother overseas. It was such a headache to get everything organized, but hopefully it will all work out…hopefully.
@Miss Teacup: Cause they’re the best! Ok, I’m biased.
@Mrs. Tartlet: Mr. P’s email to his guys was entitled 3 pieces of awesome. ha.
@Mrs. Elephant: Thanks!
@Mrs. Ostrich: They’re so popular, but hopefully they’ll become a classic!
@Jessica: They’re from Men’s Wearhouse. I’m not exactly sure which suit, but it might be this one in the gray check:

Yay that it worked to your liking! Mr. Honey is surprisingly picky about what he will be wearing, go figure ;)

Our grooms are so similar. In fact we may have had this very conversation. We still have not gotten the suits yet but ‘we’ (and I am using we in quotes) realize that suits are better! Nothing suites you like a suit.
