So a few posts back, I wrote about shopping for and purchasing my gorgeous wedding band. Today I want to tell you all about the other half of this wedding-related shopping adventure—namely, our search to find Mr. Parasol’s wedding band.
While I narrowed down my choices pretty quickly and only tried on three potential bands, Mr. Parasol spent a lot of time researching wedding bands online and then tried on probably 10–15 different choices. I didn’t think shopping for a man’s wedding band would be so difficult, but Mr. Parasol proved me wrong. When it comes to rings, he’s incredibly picky and indecisive! But perhaps that’s to be expected when a man is purchasing his first piece of jewelry. Mr. Parasol wanted to be sure that he will feel comfortable and confident wearing his ring for the rest of his life.
For a while, Mr. Parasol was really drawn to Celtic-knot wedding bands, like this one:

I tried very hard to keep my mouth shut as he pored over a ton of these rings. I don’t love the Celtic knot for a man’s wedding band but, ultimately, my feelings don’t really matter because I don’t have to wear it. If Mr. Parasol really wanted a ring like this for his wedding band, then that’s what I’d get him. Thankfully, though, he decided on his own that this look was not for him.
After Mr. Parasol felt like he had done enough research online, we finally decided to start shopping and headed to Kay Jewelers. While there, Mr. Parasol tried on a variety of styles, most of them in white gold but a few in tungsten. Here’s a sampling of a few he tried on:

While Mr. Parasol liked a lot of these styles, the last one ended up being his favorite. He loved the edges, which make the band and his finger look slimmer, and he felt great in the comfort fit. I also really liked this band. It’s so sleek and modern, and it looked great on Mr. Parasol’s finger.
Even though Mr. Parasol loved this ring, he still felt really hung up on the metal. This is something Mr. Parasol wavered on for quite a while. After much research, he came to the decision that he ultimately wants to invest in a platinum ring. He loves the look and feel of it, and quality-wise nothing else compares. Unfortunately, though, platinum men’s bands are very expensive because they’re so big. After a lot of talk about our bands and the wedding budget, Mr. Parasol decided that he wants me to get him a cheaper band for now in tungsten and upgrade to a platinum band later. (And don’t worry—I begged him to get me a cheaper wedding band right now, but he outright refused.)
So when it came down to deciding on this particular ring, Mr. Parasol decided to pass because they only had it in white gold. The salesman kept pushing and pushing us to get white gold, but Mr. Parasol wouldn’t budge. The ring was significantly more than what we had wanted to spend (close to $1,000), and as much as Mr. Parasol liked the ring, he knew he didn’t want white gold, especially if he was still holding out for a platinum upgrade down the road.
Although Mr. Parasol felt a little bummed to walk away from this ring, he certainly felt vindicated when he tried on the ring he will be getting upgraded to sometime in the near future. At our appointment with Colleen, she presented him with this stunning band:

Mr. Parasol and I both instantly fell in love with this ring. It is perfect for him, exactly what we had been looking for all along. There’s no bells and whistles on this ring and, because it’s platinum, it doesn’t need any. It shines all on its own. It looks classically timeless and incredibly modern. This is a ring Mr. Parasol can wear with confidence every day for the rest of his life.
Right now, though, this ring remains a dream for the future. Thankfully, Mr. Parasol and I were able to find a tungsten version of the white gold ring he really liked at Kay, and so on our wedding day I’ll be giving him this striking band:

The ring fits almost perfectly, Mr. Parasol loves it, and the best part was definitely the price: $35.73, including shipping! You really can’t beat that. Who knew you could buy wedding bands on Amazon? For any of you who are interested, here’s a link to Mr. Parasol’s wedding band.
Mr. Parasol and I certainly had a lot of fun shopping for our wedding bands together and exploring all the different options out there. But we’re thrilled that we finally purchased our rings, and we both cannot wait to finally wear them on our wedding day!
What type of wedding band did your SO get? Are any of you planning to upgrade your partner’s ring (or yours) for an anniversary later on?
