Hive, I want to talk about one aspect of my wedding attire that has caused me a lot of unnecessary stress: shoes.

I never thought something seemingly so minor could actually induce anxiety. I mean, they’re just shoes, right? And given that my dress is floor length, whatever shoes I decide to wear will be comfortably hidden away throughout most (if not all) of the wedding. Perhaps they’ll make a few appearances in some pictures, but other than that my shoes will be pretty much invisible.
But for some reason, I can’t seem to simply make a decision about what shoes I want to wear, and that makes me nervous. I hate having decisions hanging over me. I prefer to have things done, taken care of, and out of the way. Now if only I could make up my mind about my wedding shoes.
One aspect of the decision-making process was very easy: I will be wearing flats. Mr. Parasol and I are basically the same height, though he will argue he’s an inch taller. Not so; I’ll give him half an inch, on a good day. In any event, I really don’t want to be towering over him on our wedding day.
I don’t mind flats, anyway; in all honesty, I prefer them. With the exception of my graduate-school commencement ceremony, I haven’t worn heels in probably five years. I’m just not very comfortable or graceful in them, so I rock flat shoes of all sorts pretty much every day of the year.
I’m also confident that I don’t want “bridal” flats. I want something fun and colorful, a pair of shoes I can continue to wear after the wedding. Although a lot of brides choose blue shoes nowadays to fulfill the “something blue” requirement, I haven’t found many blue flats that I like. Instead, I’ve been leaning towards flats that are blush, light pink, or even a kind of cream or latte color.
These flats are pretty much my dream wedding shoes:

These lovelies are from Vera Wang’s Lavender Label and, as such, they run about $200. Needless to say, that is significantly more than I want to pay for a pair of shoes. If not for the high price tag, though, I’d probably go ahead and order these shoes and call it a day. But they’re definitely out of reach for the Parasol wedding, so I started looking for more affordable options.
Here are a few of the contenders:

Even though a lot of these shoes are absolutely stunning, I still can’t seem to make up my mind. I worry that some of them are just too boring. I do like simple elegance, but I never want to be boring and some of these flats seem to straddle that “plain Jane” line I want to avoid. Others seem a little out there for me. I’m really drawn to the first pair (Miss Hire Wire’s shoes), but I guess I wonder if I have the glitz and glamor to pull them off. They are pretty fabulous, right? Perhaps too fabulous for me. I just don’t know. See? I told you this decision was causing me stress.
Are any of you struggling to find the perfect pair of wedding shoes? Or are you more decisive than I am?
