Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

July 27th, 2011 @ 8:49 am by Mrs. Parasol

Hive, I want to talk about one aspect of my wedding attire that has caused me a lot of unnecessary stress: shoes.

I never thought something seemingly so minor could actually induce anxiety. I mean, they’re just shoes, right? And given that my dress is floor length, whatever shoes I decide to wear will be comfortably hidden away throughout most (if not all) of the wedding. Perhaps they’ll make a few appearances in some pictures, but other than that my shoes will be pretty much invisible.

But for some reason, I can’t seem to simply make a decision about what shoes I want to wear, and that makes me nervous. I hate having decisions hanging over me. I prefer to have things done, taken care of, and out of the way. Now if only I could make up my mind about my wedding shoes.

One aspect of the decision-making process was very easy: I will be wearing flats. Mr. Parasol and I are basically the same height, though he will argue he’s an inch taller. Not so; I’ll give him half an inch, on a good day. In any event, I really don’t want to be towering over him on our wedding day.

I don’t mind flats, anyway; in all honesty, I prefer them. With the exception of my graduate-school commencement ceremony, I haven’t worn heels in probably five years. I’m just not very comfortable or graceful in them, so I rock flat shoes of all sorts pretty much every day of the year.

I’m also confident that I don’t want “bridal” flats. I want something fun and colorful, a pair of shoes I can continue to wear after the wedding. Although a lot of brides choose blue shoes nowadays to fulfill the “something blue” requirement, I haven’t found many blue flats that I like. Instead, I’ve been leaning towards flats that are blush, light pink, or even a kind of cream or latte color.

These flats are pretty much my dream wedding shoes:

These lovelies are from Vera Wang’s Lavender Label and, as such, they run about $200. Needless to say, that is significantly more than I want to pay for a pair of shoes. If not for the high price tag, though, I’d probably go ahead and order these shoes and call it a day. But they’re definitely out of reach for the Parasol wedding, so I started looking for more affordable options.

Here are a few of the contenders:

Even though a lot of these shoes are absolutely stunning, I still can’t seem to make up my mind. I worry that some of them are just too boring. I do like simple elegance, but I never want to be boring and some of these flats seem to straddle that “plain Jane” line I want to avoid. Others seem a little out there for me. I’m really drawn to the first pair (Miss Hire Wire’s shoes), but I guess I wonder if I have the glitz and glamor to pull them off. They are pretty fabulous, right? Perhaps too fabulous for me. I just don’t know. See? I told you this decision was causing me stress.

Are any of you struggling to find the perfect pair of wedding shoes? Or are you more decisive than I am?

Don’t feel bad. I bought two pairs of shoes before I settled on the third pair. *sigh* At least none of them were expensive.

Those are all beautiful, but FYI - I tried on those Steve Madden shoes and the opening was so much wider than in most flats (in my experience) that they weren’t great looking. My feet are on the wide side, but I wouldn’t want you to decide they were perfect and then not like the way they fit!

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I’ve looked at so many shoes they now make me anxious. Shoes cause me anxiety!

Is it bad that I’ve been looking at shoes and I haven’t picked out my dress yet??

If you’re worried about too plain go with a small embellishment like the one with the bow or the pom.

My sweetie is about 2.5 inches taller than I am and I’ll be wearing heels all the way. But then @ 5′10″ I feel like I got cheated and I shoulda been 6′ so heels make up for that. He likes when I wear heels he says it makes it easier for him to touch my butt

I have been stressing over shoes, too. First I wanted pink to match my girls. Then, that was proving to be difficult, so I thought I’d stick to ivory. I couldn’t find anything that fit right or that I loved enough. Now I’m looking at black since my color are black & pink and there are much more choices in black. I thought I found “the ones” but they were sold out online. Arrgh!!

I also saw (and tried on, because I thought about flats, too) the Steve Maddens. They are really pretty and fun!! I just didn’t like how the backs rubbed my heel.

Good luck!

I’ve been thinking lately that I want a pair of flats to change into at the wedding, and I think cute, fun flats are so much harder to find than heels! I do love Miss HW’s choice though. Hopefully you found a fabulous pair for your big day!

I love those Steve Madden ones (SO SPARKLY!), but I tried them on in-store once, and they weren’t too comfortable, and that was without a whole lot of walking. I’d be prepared to put in some sort of cushion on it or something to soften it up if you decide to get them (since they are incredibly fabulous!).

I was incredibly indecisive and ended up with more pairs of wedding shoes than I’d like to admit. ;) I’d like a pair of those fluffy ones from DNA Footwear!

I loooove the DNA ones that have the flower on it. I sprung for a pair of heels from David’s Bridal and haven’t looked back. I’m a really indecisive person, but I had to make a decision so I just closed my eyes and bought them. I think I made a good choice. :) Good luck with your shoe decision!!

I can’t lie–the Vera Wang flats are easily the most comfortable flats I own (I have them in blue). I could easily see wearing them all day for a wedding.

I totally love the Vera Wang pair! I’d even consider shelling out the $200 for them. They’re just so pretty!
