Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich's Picture
Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJ Age and Occupation: 28, School Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate Athletics Engagement Date: March 27, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Congress Hall Hotel About Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Thankfully groomsmen don’t need as much time for attire as bridesmaids, because we have been moving slowly on this one. There used to be only one option for guys at a wedding…the rental tuxedo!  I am so excited that Mr. Cucumber Sammie can have his pick of outfits now and doesn’t just have to stick with the tux.

We could go with just vests:

We could go with a sports jacket over tan pants. I think this look is adorable, but it doesn’t really fit Mr. Cucumber Sammie, his groomsmen, or our venue. Oh well.

In the end, though, we decided to go with a gray suit. A suit is more casual than the tux, and I think gray is more of an early fall color than black. Plus gray is one of our wedding colors…bonus!

Originally we thought about having all the groomsmen just wear gray suits. Then we realized all the different color variations of gray (who knew?) and thought about having them all buy gray suits. I have known a couple of brides who have done this: gotten all the measurements, gone to one of those buy-one-get-one suit sales, and just picked them all up to be reimbursed later. We thought about doing that for a while, but in the end we decided it would be easiest for Mr. Cucumber Sammie to buy his suit and the rest of the groomsmen to rent one.

So we were off to find a suit for Mr. CS! On Memorial Day weekend we hit up the Premium Outlets, hoping to capitalize on their huge sales. With stores like Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Barney’s Factory Outlet, and Off Saks we knew we would find a quality suit. And what do you know? The first store we went in Mr. Cucumber Sammie found his suit!

He is getting a two-button gray suit from Brooks Brothers. It was originally about $400, and he got it for the low price of about $200. Winning! He refused to try it on for me because I think he is secretly keeping his wedding-day outfit a surprise, too.

Coming up…the joys of trying to find gray rental suits.
