About Mrs. Teacup

Nothing Is Ever Easy.

July 28th, 2011 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Teacup

The title becomes my mantra whenever things like wedding flowers derail forward momentum in my fuzzy mind’s eye. I finally Googled the quote to discover that this man is owed some Teacup props, and I’ll admit he looks like a guy who might say something like that. With all due respect, sir:

My eternal optimist fiance and I discovered a shirt in a Tahoe souvenir shop that explains the same sentiment a little differently…although Mr. Hot Tea feels that it accurately describes his dealings with me on occassion, and we both laugh when we see it—haha! Yes, this shirt is in my pajama rotation.

My trouble is that I didn’t want to care about wedding flowers. Pretty enough, but I prefer to show my love to succulent plants. To me they are the real-life translation of a Dr. Seuss book setting. Case in point, here’s a look at our balcony, with not a traditional flower in sight.

Initial attempts at flower inspiration included these lovelies in the equation.

Succulents happen to be a major trend in wedding decor nowadays. And trends usually up the asking price. Since we decided that flowers fall low on the list of budgeted priorities, it was back to the drawing board. Several months, hundreds of more hours logged on Google search, and one parrot later, I found IT—floral perfection.

Ahhhh, sweet flower relief and my new happy place! Thankfully, they go with decisions already made, especially the attire of the entire wedding party. Whew.

The fascinating part of the wedding-planning process for me is that when I truly get it and it feels right, everything falls into place and is naturally very easy! Wait a minute, did I just say that?!

And now here it is, my final flower inspiration you’ve all been patiently waiting to see…

I love Martha’s description: “The secret to this bountiful bouquet’s endless appeal: There’s not a flower in the gathering that’s truly monochromatic. Deep-purple anemones with saturated centers, tightly layered blush garden roses and ranunculus, speckled hellebores, mottled begonia leaves, and ruffly sweet peas in pink, lavender, and tangerine, cinched with a shimmery ribbon, give the eyes plenty to feast on.”

Bonus for me, many of these flowers will be in season!

Now that I’ve revealed mine, what are your favorite flowers? And where does floral rank on your list of wedding priorities?

Number one: As soon as I read “Nothing is ever easy” I immediately thought of Mr. Goodkind. Love love LOVE his books. Every so often, I catch myself quoting them. I’ll say this phrase, and at times I’ve been known to tell FI “You’re a very rare person”. He gets a kick out of it since he’s the one who introduced me to the Sword of Truth. *end geek out*

Second: I’m glad you finally found something you liked! Flowers are one thing I didn’t have a clue about at the beginning of the whole “wedding” process! Now I’m like an encyclopedia!

Seconding the Sword of Truth love. My fiancé and I are both huge SoT fans. I saw the title and was like “AHH ZEDD.” Sidenote: is it just me, or does TG look creepy in every single existing photograph of him..?

@jaina8851:

Yeah, he does tend to look creepy. I guess that’s the price you pay for being an awesome author! lol

&
@jaina8851: Agreed! I love Goodkind too. Can’t wait for “The Omen Machine” to come out next month!

Succulents are so amazing in bouquets. I’m hoping by the time we get married they won’t be so popular and, therefore, less expensive. Fingers crossed!
Your final inspiration is equally as beautiful though. So romantic!

I am geeking out that there are so many SoT fans on here!!!

@sleepingbeauty88: ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY, that’s my favorite book I’ve ever read.

@RaeBird: I’m… excited, but apprehensive. I’m nervous about him reopening the R&K storyline since he had succinctly said that it was closed. But, hopefully it will be amazing.

@Miss Teacup: Sorry for hijacking your post with the Sword of Truth talk… that last bouquet is so pretty!

Ooooooh so pretty! I also love that first succulent bouquet. And we’re frequently heard saying, “Nothing is ever easy,” but I have no idea who Terry Goodkind is! :)

Bags, woman! I never knew you were a Goodkind fan! I looooove the books. I even went so far as to buy the tv series on iTunes, and actually somewhat enjoyed it. They’re so bad they’re awesome. I really want to be a Mord Sith for halloween someday, we should totally make this happen! A good friend of mine is even naming her baby girl Kaylon (she switched up the spelling, obvs). Ok, enough babbling. Love your bouquet choice!

Flowers for me are pretty low on the list - I have no idea about types/seasons/etc … it will not be a fun part of the planning process haha.
