Hi There! Remember Me?

July 19th, 2011 @ 5:09 pm by Mrs. Crepe

There are still quite a few little projects and finishing touches that I wanted to show you while I’m waiting on the pro photos! I was dying to show you all the gifts that I gave my girls for all their hard work, but I wanted to wait until after they had received them. It’s hard enough to keep secrets from my besties, especially fun secrets like presents!

Since I make jewelry as a profession, I definitely wanted to make them some special bling that they could also wear afterwards. They were both going to wear short, strapless cocktail dresses that suited their own tastes so I felt like it was important to create similarly styled jewelry to set them apart from all the guests. I thought a long, layered necklace would work best for both girls and unlike a huge statement necklace (which could also work with their dress styles), they could wear again much more easily.

My maid of honor was going to wear a shimmery beige number so I wanted to add a bit more color to her piece. Her style runs more on the feminine side so I took the liberty of adding lots of fun, sparkly pink topaz and huge amethysts.

Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!

Surprise! It’s Bachelorette Time.

July 19th, 2011 @ 4:46 pm by Mrs. Magic

I freaking hate surprises, y’all. Totally. I always feel left out that I’m not part of the planning process, and get really anxious about what might happen, and feel sorry for myself that I can’t get excited and anticipate the event that is coming, because I don’t know what to anticipate. Then I get anxious again.

Yes, I have a problem…it’s been well established now in these blog posts.

Anyways, my bachelorette weekend was drawing near and it was a complete surprise. I kept trying to break all my friends individually to learn more about what was happening but they kept their secrets, well…secret. Here is what I did know.

I knew my little sister, Mini Magic, was in charge of planning, along with my bridesmaids. Now I love Mini Magic, but she is only 19, and has not had a ton of experience in party planning. Partying, yes…party planning, not so much.

Surprise! It's Bachelorette Time. : wedding bachelorette party chapel hill Rebspar1 rebspar

This made me anxious (completely needlessly so, since she and the other gals pulled the entire weekend off amazingly).

I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

Sweet Beginnings: I Am The Luckiest

July 19th, 2011 @ 4:21 pm by Mrs. Tartlet

After our declarations of intent, Mr. Tartlet gave my hands a squeeze and delivered the personal vows he had composed in the weeks prior to our marriage:

“Every single day with you is special, because it gives me another chance to learn from your kindness, your empathy and selflessness. I look forward to the rest of our lives together, to wake up next to you knowing that I’m fortunate enough to come home to you. I look forward to the late night bubble tea runs…”

Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich's Picture
Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJ Age and Occupation: 28, School Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate Athletics Engagement Date: March 27, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Congress Hall Hotel About Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.

Sanctuary

July 19th, 2011 @ 3:59 pm by Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

I can’t remember if I have mentioned this already, but our wedding is the day after my birthday. Woohooo, double presents! In theory this should make it almost impossible for Mr. Cucumber Sammie to forget our anniversary. Never say never, though.

What does this mean for the Cucumber Sandwich wedding guest? Well, instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner, we are having a rehearsal/welcome/birthday party! It is going to be out-of-control shenanigans, and I can’t wait. Practically a double wedding since everyone who is on our “A” guest list is invited to the welcome-dinner bonanza.

We have decided to go in the opposite direction of the wedding when planning birthday-palooza. While the wedding will be classy and elegant, the night before is going to be debaucherous. (Not for me, though, because I need my beauty sleep!) Our catering menu will consist of the following. (Warning: those with weak stomachs should not proceed.)

Skincare Saviors

July 19th, 2011 @ 3:36 pm by Mrs. Macarons

My skin is generally clear, but when I’m stressed, which is exponentially more often now, acne likes to rear its ugly head. The last thing I want is a major breakout on our wedding day so it’s important to have it under control. I have fairly sensitive skin and have struggled to find products that work for me. They’re either too gentle and don’t help or they’re too strong and prevent me from using them on a regular basis. Up until a year ago I was caught in a vicious cycle of breakouts followed by sensitivity and peeling. I can finally say I have clear, healthy skin, and the following things have made a world of difference.

I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.

Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

come to you today with both good news and bad. I typically like to lead with bad news to leave off on a happy note, but that just won’t jive well with my story.

So, here goes.

Shoes it or Lose it: My Solemate, So Close...Yet So Far. : wedding san francisco shoes 1533455 1533455

After my unenthusiastic start to shoe shopping and my online shopping fail a couple of weeks ago, I finally decided it was time to physically head to the stores to touch, smell and taste (ok, maybe not so much smell, and definitely not taste) some footwear.

So Mama Seal and I decided to hit the stores this past Sunday in search of my wedding shoes. We probably could have planned this trip better - stores tend to close early on Sundays and we didn’t exactly compensate for that, but off we went nonetheless.

I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

In my last post I shared our vows and how much fun that part of our ceremony was! After that, our friend Paul  recited one of the more touching prayers I’ve heard him say.

The air around us felt warm for a moment while we had our eyes closed, carefully listening to Paul’s sweet prayer. I don’t think I can describe how happy I felt while holding his hands. (I did feel my dress hitting me in the face a few times, though.)

Our long-distance relationship was finally facing an end and we were about to begin a full new life together, closer together than ever before.

Mrs. Ladyfingers, Saint Petersburg, FL Age and Occupation: 30, Marketing Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Sports Writer Engagement Date: December 24, 2010 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Palma Sola Botanical Park About Me: I hail from Oklahoma, he was born and raised in Long Island. Fate brought us together, and now we live in a cute little rental house with our nutty dog, and our aloof cat. We both love to read, watch movies, explore our town, and laugh like hyenas. When I’m not obsessively wedding crafting, I enjoy stalking style and decorating blogs, making collages and painting, napping, thrifting, rearranging our bookshelves, and being a total weirdo with my friends. Hi!
About Mrs. Ladyfingers

I don’t think I’d qualify as a shoe fetishist, as I own just 10 pairs that I wear with any regularity (15 if you count my workout sneakers and the four pairs I rarely wear). That’s a drop in the bucket compared with some—but I can’t help lusting over them! I love some good shoe porn. Mmmm. Shoes.

So I knew the shoe hunt would be alternately exciting and frustrating. From the beginning I knew I’d wear a flat—I rarely if ever wear a heel (I have one pair from Target I live in, and a pair of wedges you couldn’t pry from me if you tried, but that’s it in the heel department), and Mr. Ladyfingers is one inch shorter than me in bare feet, so I selfishly didn’t want to tower over him in photos.

Initially, though, I did have some difficulty in the shoe department. I saved this photo early on:

A Day with FitBit

July 19th, 2011 @ 1:25 pm by Mrs. Penguin

I recently won a FitBit via the LoseIt blog, and was really excited to get one! The shorthand version of what a FitBit is (which I’m sure their marketers hate to hear) is that it’s a very tricked-out pedometer. The longer form explanation of what it is can be found here. Basically, it’s a device that you wear 24-7 that tracks your steps (with 3D movement technology similar to the Nintendo Wii’s), approximate calories burned, distance traveled through the day, and your sleep efficiency. It takes all that data and shoots it wirelessly into your computer, and you can access this info via an app on your phone (Android or iPhone) or your PC. The FitBit Dashboard (basically, your homepage at FitBit) allows you to manually input a variety of extra information (your calorie intake, weight, water drank, exercise activity, mood and more) giving you a one-shop stop for getting a good grip on your calorie consumption/output and is a nice, digital partner for your fitness goals.

Up front: Its functionality is similar (but not the same) as the BodyBugg’s, which is a device that I know of through Jenna/Mrs. Avocado and I’ve really coveted since she’s had one. The BodyBugg measures your calorie output more scientifically based on your individual body heat and movement than FitBit. FitBit estimates your number of calories burned based on your BMR (Base Metabolic Rate). The FitBit is less of a monetary commitment—a FitBit is a one-time cost of $100 with no monthly fee, while the BodyBugg costs around $200, plus a monthly fee of $10 (less if you commit to a year plan instead of going month-to-month). If you are considering either, I highly suggest Googling “BodyBugg vs FitBit” and reading some side by side comparisons.

Bringin’ the Honey to the Hive!

July 19th, 2011 @ 12:33 pm by Mrs. Honey

Yo yo, HIVE!!! Miss Honey here. Even as I sit here typing this post addressed to THE hive, I’m still in a huge amount of shock that I have been accepted as the newest bee! Yowza. It was just a few short days ago when I read Miss Parasol’s introduction post and imagined what it would actually be like to write that same post. And now here I am, and I can tell you it feels incredible. I’m a beeeee! (I know, so typical, but it really sums up the excited energy!)

I spent my weekend camping and away from all things technology, but I couldn’t shake this anxious feeling I had and couldn’t wait to get back to service and to work Monday to check my email. And there it was, the email from Pengy. Having given this moment tons of thought in the past months, I thought I would avoid the email and hit the open button with my eyes closed. But I kept my eyes open and gleefully read, and re-read, the email stating my acceptance. This was the first email I checked when I got to work bright and early Monday morning, and so I had to contain my squealing and giddiness for the e.n.t.i.r.e. day. I sent a text to Mr. Honey telling him I had been accepted to blog about our wedding for my favorite wedding blog and, when I didn’t get a response in less then 2.5 minutes, I decided to walk down to his office and tell him in person. But he was so busy I just blurted it out in the front lobby, told him I loved him, and left. Hmph, it was kind of anti-climatic. He was super excited to hear the details last night over dinner, though.

So why Miss Honey?

I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. A Dress for a Giraffe

July 19th, 2011 @ 12:09 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

Just to clarify by “a Giraffe,” I mean me.

I realized I’ve never told you about my wedding dress/dress hunt. Why, you ask? Well, it’s not really a good story.

Really. It’s just not much of a story at all.

Here’s what happened.

Mr. Giraffe proposed, and that night I bought 3 wedding magazines. I flipped through one, saw an advertisement for a dress, and decided I wanted that one. A month later, I was home from college for Thanksgiving, I headed to store, tried on that dress, and was sure I wanted that one. We set a date 2.5 years in the future. Then 1.5 years later, I headed to the same store, tried on the same dress, and bought it.

That’s really it, the whole shebang. I didn’t cry, but I was happy and wanted that dress.
