Mrs. Funnel Cake's Picture
Mrs. Funnel Cake, Zürich, Switzerland/Columbus, Ohio Age and Occupation: 24, Visual Communication Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Application Engineer Engagement Date: May 30, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Catholic church followed by a botanical conservatory About Me: I'm an American designer who moved to Switzerland for love after a fairytale beginning at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I love travel, photography, museums, learning German so I can speak with my mother-in-law, cooking (eating), cuddling, and I'm not afraid to try something new even if it terrifies me. My Swiss/Brazilian man and I are both down to earth people planning a traditional Catholic wedding in my hometown with some quirky cultural exceptions to reflect our different backgrounds. We look forward to celebrating with friends and family from all over the world in a classic, sophisticated fusion of heritage and love.
About Mrs. Funnel Cake

As a child, I honestly never dreamt that I would marry at the courthouse. So when I woke up on the morning of our Zivilstand and started preparing for the day, I wasn’t sure quite how to feel. I didn’t feel like a bride, but I was happy and excited to be taking this big step with Mr. Funnel Cake.

Quarter past ten, we met my parents at their hotel nearby and hopped on the tram down to the Verwaltungszentrum Werd (Municipal Centre Werd) in Zürich to meet Mr. Funnel Cake’s parents and brother. (By the way, I apologise now for the non-pro quality photos. We had Mr. FC’s father using Mr. FC’s SLR camera and it was on a high ISO setting, so most of the pictures are really low quality!)

I'm a GENIUS at spicing up Weight Watchers recipes and a pathological cheater at board games. I run a slow marathon, but my feet are learning to move faster. Mornings aren't my thing, but I can night owl with the best of them. Don't tempt me with your Cherry Cokes---I'm trying to quit. Tomorrow. Or never.
About Miss Snapdragon

The title of this post is definitely tongue-in-cheek, as I love to fall over laughing anytime I hear “Well, my therapist says…” It’s OK for me to fall over laughing, because usually I’m the one who says it. No hate mail please; add it to my religious conversion mail pile.

My ex-fiance was a dillhole, and when I left him, I was somehow super depressed because I didn’t have to spend the rest of my life with that dillhole. The irony of love: pining for jerks. I was “gently nudged” by my parents to see a therapist. A nice lady that is financially obligated to pay undivided attention to me for a solid hour? She sounded just like a hooker, but without the chlamydia… I was intrigued.

I met with my decidedly un-hookerish therapist once a week for months (she wears cardigans and sensible shoes.) Going to therapy was like class.

Loxed and Loaded: Setting the Mood

July 11th, 2011 @ 9:47 am by Mrs. Lox

Yes, it’s true. My recaps are really starting. But before I talk about the days leading up to the wedding, before we dive into chaos and joy… I want to set the mood for you all.

I have a face like a muppet. Yeah, I’m just putting it right out there. And it is impossible to follow me around all day with a camera and not get some muppety goodness on film. But my muppet faces tell what I am choosing to believe is a charming story about our wedding day. So here are a few glimpses to help set the mood as the Lox recaps kick off.

The DIY Marathon Continues

July 11th, 2011 @ 9:15 am by Mrs. Balloons

I’ve always loved the look of birch candle holders. As usual, after browsing numerous sites I decided that I wasn’t willing to pay that much for something that I could attempt to do myself. I knew that the exact look of the wood wouldn’t be the same since we have no actual birch trees nearby, but I was OK with that. It was just the overall woodsy, rustic look that I wanted.

The DIY Marathon Continues : wedding aspen crafts decor diy 1 1

Save On Crafts

If you remember, we had several trees that had to be cut down during the process of clearing area for our reception building. I had Mr. B cut various sizes of stumps from those trees. Then he took his biggest drill bit size that he had in his tool set to drill into the center of each of them.

Cherry Pie is Functional

July 11th, 2011 @ 8:45 am by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

I mean, we all know this Cherry Pie is. I’m talking about pie.

Unlike my other pies, I did not buy cherries in season and freeze them. When I was trying to figure out where to buy tasty cherries in mid-June, my mum told me about these jarred cherries (not cherry pie filling. ew.). I talked about that more in my pie recipes post, so today we’re talking about the jars.

Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

By the time the ladies and I got to the art gallery, most of the guests had already arrived and were strolling the gallery. We decided to serve a little wine before the ceremony, so guests were able to grab a glass and look around for a bit before our house party and DOC circulated through the gallery to ask them to sit. I only learned after the wedding that the shuttle bus taking guests from the hotel had taken the long way to the gallery, so guests who arrived on the shuttle didn’t have as much time to check out the artwork before the ceremony as I had planned. Total bummer… especially since the art is divine.

Happy One Year to Us!!

July 10th, 2011 @ 6:45 pm by Mrs. Turtle

It’s been a while, but some of you may remember reading about my wedding planning journey. You followed along as I learned to make French macarons, designed our invitations, and had a lace shrug made from my mother’s wedding dress. When our wedding day finally arrived, I couldn’t wait to share everything with you; from the way all of the reception details came together to changing into a ’50s prom dress for our first dance as a married couple. And now, as July 10th approaches once again, I can hardly believe it’s been a year!

Wondering what we’ve been up to? Well, our first year of marriage has certainly been a whirlwind of both fun adventures and challenging new experiences. Immediately following our European honeymoon, we packed up all of our belongings (and wedding gifts), and left our beloved home state of California behind for the opposite coast. I can tell you from experience that a cross-country road trip is definitely an interesting way to spend your first weeks of marriage…

A Little Blue Dress

July 9th, 2011 @ 6:40 pm by Miss Doily

I’m one of those brides who could honestly care less about the dresses that my bridesmaids wear. In fact, I told them that we could pick a designer and color and length, and they could choose from there. Whatever made them feel beautiful. My bridesmaids are all different sizes and shapes. MOH A is a size four and is 5′3″. BM S is a size sixteen and is 5′6″. BM E is 5′2″ and is a size eight. No two girls are alike in any way. Thus the reasoning behind getting different dresses. MOH A and I talked about the reason we had to pick one designer and color. Navy is one of those weird colors that all designers seem to do in varying shades. Some navy blues are so dark they are black, and others are light and look almost like a dark royal blue. Not that I minded the shades, but for some kind of cohesiveness MOH A urged me to go with one designer, thus one shade of blue.

Now MOH A pretty much took charge on the dress front, which is fine with me. About half of my bridesmaids live in Des Moines, where MOH A lives, so if she wanted to book the appointments to find the dresses, I was game. I was happy to delegate (which is completely surprising because I am usually one of those people who likes to control every little detail). So MOH A made an appointment at a swanky bridal salon in Des Moines because there was one dress that I really loved the idea of and wanted the girls to try on.

Vanuatu Dreaming v3.0

July 9th, 2011 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

So, without going into too much detail (mwahaha), what did the Jaguars actually do on their Vanuatu honeymoon? Well, if you were following along on my previous posts, you’ll have noticed that it was very much a R&R type of resort, rather than one chock full of adventurous activities. And that was exactly what we’d been looking for.

The “cookie letters” are in the mail! What are the “cookie letters,” you might ask? Excellent question. Like many brides before me, I am planning on having a cookie bar. In Pittsburgh (and the surrounding area) it is a wedding tradition for important women in the life of the bride and groom to bake homemade cookies to be served to the guests as favors.
