With my hair and makeup finished, it was time to put on the dress that had been hanging in the window all morning. I held the dress up from the front and Mama Hippo did the honors of zipping it up while the bridesmaids and house party looked on.

We hope you had a fabulous long weekend! We’re kicking off this week with our newest bee! Say hello to Miss Doily!

Miss Doily, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 27, Freelance Writer/ Publisher
Engagement Date: August 27th, 2010
Wedding Date: March 2012
Venue: Father’s Vineyard Church/ A Touch of Class Banquet Center
About Me: I’m an Iowan girl with a deep love of Harry Potter, classic movies, cardigans, and Post-Its. My type-A Virgo tendencies often cause me to drive my laid-back college sweetheart fiance batty with lists and PowerPoint presentations. I love to be crafty and do things myself, which explains why my two crazy kittens often will prance around the house covered in glitter and ribbons. When I am not bogged down with work, school, or wedding planning, I like to travel to visit my expansive family and have wild adventures with my best friends. After a rollercoaster ride of a love story, I’m ready to take that final plunge, marry the love of my life, and become a Mrs.!
All of this grown up business of “budgeting” and SAVING because suddenly I am a grown up married lady is a real party pooper, so says my closet. In the meantime, I have found that nail polish is an easy way to satisfy the need to shop for new wearables.

Base Colo is Brucci in Outrageous Orange. Topped with Art Club’s Gold Glitter.

Hellooo, hive! Balloons here. Oh how I’ve missed you! Yep, I’m still alive and I’m back and ready for action. You see, my laptop caught a bad virus and I’ve been without a computer for awhile now. Thank goodness that I have a talented friend who was able to recover it without loss of my beloved pictures and documents. *Oh and by the way…any time I tried to come up with a way to tell you “I’m back,” the Backstreet Boys song kept coming into my mind, hence the title.

You may remember my 2 month mayhem freak out…This computer virus followed by some other disastrous events such as my car being backed into certainly didn’t help matters… but I’m happy to say that thanks to my wonderful fiance, I got through it and I’m happy, excited, and back on track again.

Mr. Ladyfingers and I had never been anywhere outside the continental United States, so when it came time to talk honeymoon, the world was literally our oyster (well, not literally…but figuratively, definitely). Initially, we didn’t think we’d be able to do a real honeymoon. At the time he proposed, I was going to school part time for interior design because I was really unhappy with my journalism job and needed a backup plan. We planned our wedding date around my school break as it was, and we would probably only have been able to swing a mini-moon at best.
Then, though, fate stepped in. I found a job I loved, left the job I’d been unhappy at, and decided to put school on hold. I’d done lots of soul searching, and as I took a break for spring term to get acclimated to the new job, I found I really didn’t miss it; while I’d enjoyed learning about interior design, I’d also learned that the business side of things didn’t appeal to me at all.
With no more part-time school, my schedule had opened up wide. Our overall budget was still on the low side, so we planned a weeklong trip to St. Augustine, somewhere neither of us had ever been but still within our state. It’s a very romantic spot, the oldest city in the United States, and seemed to fit our honeymoon bill.
(Fun fact #1: I often type too quickly and spell “honeymoon” “honeymood.” Freudian slip? Methinks so.)
Then, as so often happens with me, a thought popped into my head. “You know,” this thought said, “you guys should really look into cruises. They’re affordable and fun, and will take you places you’ve never been.” Sometimes my thoughts sound like Kathie Lee Gifford.

Enjoy the sunshine!
When we left off, Mr. CS was fading fast and couldn’t believe we had two more venues to visit that day. With the help of a little seaside fudge and the promise of an adult beverage, Mr. CS trudged on. He is such a trooper. Our next stop was the Hotel Alcott.

This is it, Hive. Today’s “the day.” Nineteen months of planning, anticipation, and major uncertainty have come together. It’s finally here!
It’s way too early to wake up, but that’s okay. The sun is rising over the Hudson and I’m curling up with my laptop. Would you expect anything less?

Friday morning started out much like any other: I woke up to the familiar chime of my cell phone alarm at 7:15 am, which I promptly silenced by blindly smashing buttons until the offensive noise ceased. I slowly opened my eyes and blinked, adjusting to the sun that was streaming through the sheer bedroom curtains and listened to the sound of Mr. Tartlet gently snoring beside me. Not surprisingly, I had trouble falling asleep the night before after the whirlwind of activity at the rehearsal and welcoming dinner. Surprisingly, I felt oddly refreshed after only 4 hours of sleep. I proceeded with my typical morning routine, threw on a pair of grey velour pants and a white tank top with the word “bride” emblazoned across the chest in peach vintage typeface, zipped up my favorite purple jacket, and tip-toed downstairs to meander the halls that would soon be bustling with activity. For now, though, all was quiet.

Remember the hair flower I was making? It hasn’t changed other than the fact it’s now buried somewhere in the abyss known as my crafting tub. Many of you recommended a pearly/sparkly brooch for the center but after several trips to thrift stores and searching on eBay I couldn’t find anything quite right. I wasn’t willing to invest any more time or money into it so I swallowed my crafting pride and bought one instead.
After attempting the flower myself I determined I wanted all feathers. Enter the Feather Fascinator by Londonxox.
