About Mrs. Teacup

Hello, dear hive! I hope your weekend was full of fun and happiness. Mine certainly was, although it didn’t start out that way…

Remember how last week I was all insightful and inspired? Well, it only took a mysteriously missing bridesmaids’ dress to derail the zen-like approach to wedding planning in one quick instant. My FB status update says it all.

{FB vent!}

WTH is right, Miss Rachel. Here’s a preview of that super fun day with my Sweet Tea girls three months ago.

{Party in the minivan rental!}

For now, suffice it to say that I ordered and paid for all the dresses at that same time in one transaction, or so I thought. The dresses finally came in—YAY!—and I picked them up last Friday before rushing off to the airport to visit Maid of Honor Sweet Tea in SoCal. Imagine my surprise turned frustration when the consultant said, “She hasn’t ordered it yet” after I asked about the one that didn’t come in.

Seriously?! We followed their advice and ordered them during the height of prom season (hence the oversight) with five months until W-day to allow for plenty of time for the dresses to come in and get altered. Now there’s only three months to go and that’s how long it takes a new order to get to the store. The consultant casually assured me that I had plenty of time for this straggler. Yeah, that’s what they said three months ago. I pulled out my credit card and placed the order, AAARRRRUGH!

Cue meltdown in 3…2…1…

I now fully understand why couples elope, and those who don’t wish they had. Here’s a glimpse of our dream wedding heaven, if I could have only let go of my want to get married in the Catholic church. Ahhhhh, Cabo.

But I digress. After a mildly tearful meltdown alone in the car and a quick call to Mama Teacup to tell her how much I hated wedding planning, I managed to laugh at myself for instantly thinking that “nothing is ever easy” in that moment.

Thankfully, I was on my way to visit my dear MOH Sweet Tea. If anyone could make this process fun again it would be her.

{Zen happy place restored, complete with sushi! Note the hot green tea…}

We even managed to squeeze in some computer time devoted to wedding planning—logistics and details that had previously stalled my momentum. As a dutiful MOH she humored me and played dress up—dress, cardigan, and jewelry—and I loved her look.

She came through in a big way, and I’m back from the brink of another bridal breakdown…thanks, friend!

Now you know how I regain sanity when the going gets rough…I jet off to somewhere fun with friends! Who keeps you grounded on this roller-coaster journey to matrimony? What are your favorite escapes or de-stressing tips? I could definitely use them for a rainy day!

I’ve had about 3 meltdowns so far all due to bridesmaid dresses, discontinued slips and then a bridemaid dress that wont be in until 2 days before my wedding= freakout.
I’ve gotten to the point where I want to cancel everything and elope. But then I think about our 400 guest that are only family and close friends and how much of a great time we want our wedding to be, and that goes away! Happy planning! :)

Oh, Teacup, I’m so sorry you were in such a stressful situation! And don’t worry–we’ve all encountered those “why didn’t we just elope?” moments, me more than most. But I know that in the end, everything will work out, and you’ll be so incredibly happy on your wedding day. :)

I had a breakdown as well this weekend! My MOH (no other bridesmaids) still has not ordered her dress for my 10/15 wedding. She says she cannot afford it, but has the money to go out to dinner and other things. (Note she has had 4 months to find and order her dress.) I’m seriously thinking replacing her with two of my cousins.

Hang in there…it will be worth it in the end.

Gah, what a horrible mix-up by the store! I’m sorry you had to go through that, but some girl time is the best for de-stressing. :)

I hadn’t had a meltdown so far…..but after watching Bridezilla episode’s I know exactly what NOT to do. But I am sure as the day approaches and the budgets gets strectched beyond belief there will be meltdowns.

Hanging out with friends is my number one de-stressing tool too! Or sometimes I just look at Sparks and say, “Tell me everything is okay. Tell me now.” Hahaha, that helps too. Sorry you had a rough time with the bridesmaids dresses! Hope things stay happy from now on! :)

It’s seriously the little things. I had a complete nervous breakdown on Friday after going over our numbers after a surprise expense. The next day I was totally fine. Hang in there and breathe!

@s2bBradsWifey: Such a good perspective, you’re so right!

@Miss Parasol: I appreciate your reassurance, it’s nice to know I’m not alone in feeling this way :)

@navybride10.15: OMG - so stressful! Sending you lots of love and good wishes that all gets resolved with your MOH.

@Mrs. Tartlet: Thank goodness I had the trip planned already :)

@Earniece:You are so lucky! I watch Bridezillas to remind myself that I am not a drama queen, ha ha.

@Miss Sparkler: Thanks for the sweet thought, I’m doing so much better now :)

@Miss Pony: Yum, maybe I can have some on W-Day…just started my wedding diet :/

I have a friend whose father offered her $50,000 to just run off and elope. She said no because she wanted family and friends at the wedding. But starting at about the 2 month mark she called me every day to tell me she wished she had taken the money and eloped! You are not alone.
