About Miss Honey

Just Hangin’ Pretty Lil Things

August 1st, 2011 @ 1:15 pm by Mrs. Honey

I am struggling over here in wedding planning/deciding land…you’d think I would be struggling with something significant like money or the guest list or what food to serve but, no, I’m struggling with what pretty, detailed thing I want to decorate with. That’s right—I can’t decide what I want to hang in our reception space. If you recall, our venue is very blank, so hanging something pretty is a must.

Fabric Bunting:

I’m very drawn to the bunting; what’s not to love about the adorableness of fabric bunting? I fear it might be a little too modern or too country, depending on the fabric chosen, to meet our rustic-whimsy feel. Maybe my bridal shower would be the perfect excuse to make some of those little flags!

Pom Pom Garland:

When I saw this pom pom garland I was sold; then I found the yarn pom pom garland and thought it would be a fun substitute to my yarn spheres I’m already doing for the ceremony. Both are made out of yarn and could coordinate that way. I’m just a little scared the yarn pom pom could come off too playful instead of the right whimsical touch.

Snowflakes:

I think an obvious choice to a lot of people would be snowflakes since we are doing a winter wedding. I think they would be pretty, especially if we had a ton of them made out of some shimmery paper. But I’m actually trying to avoid the winter theme in all other aspects of the wedding.

Paper Lanterns:

Oh, paper lanterns! In huge quantities these pretty things make the perfect statement. However, two of the weddings I’ve attended lately have used paper lanterns, so I’m thinking this might be too expected.

Ribbons:

The ribbon concept is new to me, and I’m swooning over the images. I love the unfinished edges and the multiple patterns. Added bonus: it’s so simple—cut and tie and done!

Yarn Spheres:

The other possibility is the yarn spheres, which I have already decided we will be decorating our ceremony arch with:

I can’t explain why I love these spheres so much, but I do. I think of all the ideas, this encompasses my vision the most and ties in so perfectly. The sphere shape hanging so delicately screams whispers whimsical, while the natural yarn material lends itself to the rustic vibe.

How’s a bride to choose from all the pretty options?! Tell me hive: what pretty little things will you be hanging at your wedding?

One word, Honey: BUNTING! And lots of it! I’m actually writing a bunting post right now. Great minds think alike, my dear! :)

Ah, I’m totally into yarn spheres, although I think mine will be string instead of yarn. And probably spray painted bright colors. But I’m not sure; it’s still in my “Problems for Future Cannon” box.

Do you Bees think bunting would work in a carnival vintagey theme?? I never gave bunting much though but now look forward to your post Miss Parasol

I made a string of bunting and the Mr. gave it a strange look, saying it was too childish and carnival-y. After I got over feeling hurt, I realized he’s a pretty good barometer of the general public (i.e. those not obsessed with wedding blogs). I’m all for the casual feel (our reception’s in a tent for crying out loud) but the struggle to defend it to normal people is just not worth it to me.

But yes, Curly RN - definitely would work in a carnival vintagey theme :)

@CurlyRN: I think it would be PERFECT for a carnival vintage theme. Especially in fun bold colors!

We’re hanging yarn spheres!!! I love them, I found so many tutorials online I had to make them and they are turning out great! I cannot wait to see them in action with some tealights inside!! I also love that you call them yarn spheres (I call them yarn orbs) and my fiance, being the mature one, of course calls them yarn balls and then giggles… But AWESOME!! We are hanging a bunch to make them look like chandeliers! Good luck choosing!! You know what, how bout a little of everything? Because I’m making bunting for the reception AND a fabric strip backdrop at the alter… Overkill?? I think not!

We’re doing poms at our wedding, hanging from the ceiling, and paper lanterns. But for your wedding, I love the yarn balls and snowflakes!

@Miss Parasol: Then i will live vicariously through you and your bunting :)
@Miss Cannon: Awesome! I found an image of rainbow colored yarn spheres and thought of the canon wedding!
@CurlyRN: I think bunting is meant for that theme!
@Miss Kid: I’m so curious what they will look like with lights in them!

I’m in the same boat as Mrs. Trail Mix and love all the options you presented. :P I think my favorite has to be the ribbon right now, though!

I love all of these! We ended up going with bunting. Could you do burlap flags mixed in with different whimsical prints?

I love the yarn balls, especially in the grays from the pictures you posted. But you can’t go wrong with any of these, they’re all super cute!

I love the look of the lights and bunting in the first pic. But then again, I am always biased toward bunting.

I’m so hearting the yarn spheres right now too! They seem so cozy because they are yarn, yet the kind of remind me of snow balls too. It’s a tough decision!

Love love love the fabric ribbons! We’re doing lanterns over our dance floor, and I’m a big fan of bunting/Bunting too :)
