Mrs. Doily, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Age and Occupation: 25, Autism Paraeducator/ Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, IT Hosting Support Engagement Date: August 27th, 2010 Wedding Date: March 2012 Venue: Father’s Vineyard Church/ A Touch of Class Banquet Center About Me: I’m an Iowan girl with a deep love of Harry Potter, classic movies, cardigans, and Post-Its. My type-A Virgo tendencies often cause me to drive my laid-back college sweetheart fiance batty with lists and PowerPoint presentations. I love to be crafty and do things myself, which explains why my two crazy kittens often will prance around the house covered in glitter and ribbons. When I am not bogged down with work, school, or wedding planning, I like to travel to visit my expansive family and have wild adventures with my best friends. After a rollercoaster ride of a love story, I’m ready to take that final plunge, marry the love of my life, and become a Mrs.!
About Mrs. Doily

With all of the current trends in bridal shoes, I had absolutely no idea were to start. I like shoes, I like all kinds of shoes, I like all kinds of colors of shoes. Sigh. Before the shoe hunting had even started, I was already shutting down due to being overwhelmed. I gave myself a couple of days to regain my composure and I turned to my favorite way of making decisions:

Yes, I turned to my one true love: Post-Its. I have about 15 different colored Post-Its so I picked out several colors and got to work. What I did was write down the different types of wedding shoes I could potentially go with.

I could go with plain, white, bridal shoes:

Or I could be a little more daring and go with colored shoes like these by Paris Hilton:

Or these by Nina:

I also had a category for sparkles:

I could go blinged out and buy some strassed shoes. (BTW these Louboutins are about 1/5 of my entire wedding budget and were never actually in the running. But a girl can dream right?)

Or some plain (at least compared to the Louboutins) glitter heels:

I loved the possibilities that all of these shoes had. Especially the colored shoes and the blingy shoes. However, none of the shoes seemed that personal to me. I just couldn’t put my finger on what I was missing in these shoes. After searching online some more for shoes, I came across these:

I knew then and there, that I had to have a pair of these wonderful shoes. These had everything I was looking for: the fun, the personal, the beautiful. I immediately contacted Figgie Shoes to find out how the price and I was devastated—they were way outside of my budget. I looked desperately to see if I could move things around to get them, but they simply were too much. Just as I was about to give up hope, Mr. D suggested that I buy my own pair of white shoes and do them myself, he said I was a good artist and should at least try. There is no way that they would be as good as Deborah Thompson’s work, but I could still have my fun, unique shoes. So I took what Mr. D said into consideration and began the hunt for the perfect white shoes in which to utilize on this enormous feat.

Next time: If the shoe fits…

Are you personalizing your wedding shoes? How?

I am torn as well. I am a shoe fanatic and can’t see myself getting all gussied up for my wedding day without the most Fab and fitting shoes. I think my soon to be Mr. would expect no less. I really want to splurge on a Fab designer pair, but the rational soon to be “Mrs” on a budget is telling me not to. Ahh decisions I’m sure I’ll find something fab, as I expect you will too. Best of luck to you, hope you post pics!!!

I am having the exact same dilemma!! I can’t decide, I can’t decide! And I have 67 days left! What is a girl to do?! I’m almost thinking, a plain pair for the ceremony and a fab fun pair for the reception and then I can’t help but wonder how many people will actually be looking at my feet?!

I love the personalized shoes. I think your pair will turn out great! Why spend so much $$ on it, when it will be even more special because you created them?

Oh my goodness, those shoes are awesome! I personalized mine by having my bridal party write on the bottoms with blue permanent marker – my something blue! Now I have those messages from my girls to read whenever I want!
