Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.

Shower Me, Baby!

August 3rd, 2011 @ 2:04 pm by Mrs. Parasol

I feel so blessed by Sister Parasol in so many ways, and I am very lucky that she will be throwing me one heck of a bridal shower next month. She’s keeping most of the details under wraps (which I am totally fine with—it’s one less thing to worry about!), but she did make some pretty amazing bridal-shower invitations. Aren’t they lovely?

I love these wedding stamps! They are adorable! / Personal photo

These are so pretty! The bows were done by Sister Parasol’s boyfriend and another guy friend. They did good! / Personal photo

I am still beyond thrilled that Sister Parasol is kind enough to throw me a shower, and I am so excited for the party next month! It’s going to be amazing.

Though I am still a little nervous. One of my biggest qualms with having a wedding at all was my unease with being the center of attention, and a bridal shower is no exception. I’m hoping that some of my adorable little cousins will be in attendance and steal some of the attention away from me!

Are you having a bridal shower? Do you have any suggestions for how a somewhat shy bride-to-be can relax and enjoy being the center of attention at her shower?

I was super nervous going into my bridal shower too! I hate being the center of attention (NOT a good thing when you are planning a wedding, right?). My advice is to tell your sister your feeling nervous, have a drink when you arrive, and just remember that everyone is SO excited to see you. Have fun! Sister Parasol is doing a kick-ass job! Lucky you! :)

I also don’t like being the center of attention, but I also enjoyed my bridal shower and I know you will too. As what you have said, it is going to be amazing!

I was so nervous going to my shower, which freaked me out because if I felt that way about a shower how crazy-nervous was I going to feel at the wedding?!? I agree with Miss Sparker, have a drink as soon as you get there (make sure to eat something before you leave home though). Cute invitations, the boys did a great job with the bows!

The invites are SO CUTE! And if you would like to borrow Cherry Bomb, I can guarantee her rendition of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” at the top of her lungs will keep everyone’s attention squarely on her so you can relax out of the limelight.

I am not typically shy at all and even I was weirdly nervous when I first walked into my shower! I agree with Miss Sparkler and xtatic1 - have a glass of bubbly when you first arrive, and take some time to mingle with your friends and family, and by the time the gift opening rolls around, you’ll be much more comfortable. =)

Your invites are so cute! And just relax at your bridal shower. Know that everyone is there to celebrate and love on you. You’ll be fine.

Your invitations are so pretty! I was apprehensive about being the center of attention, too, but everyone was really nice and put me at ease.

Those invitations are so adorable! I can’t give you any advice, but as a fellow shy bride im appreciating the post to know I am definitely not alone.

The invitations look great, and I am sure that if you have a drink and relax with your close friends and family the nervousness will fade away. Plus, presents!!

I’m really nervous about my shower too (also that weekend)! Thankfully my wonderful bridesmaids only gave me the smallest of details, like what time I will need to be all ready to go in the morning. And I definitely agree that it’s nice to have one less thing to worry about.

I second the comment about presents! Knowing you’ll get lots of good loot should set you at ease. :)

How fun! I left it all up to my maid of honor, so if I’m getting a shower, I don’t know anything about it. I’m honestly just looking forward to getting together with a bunch of chicks and gossiping.
