Hi hive! We’re kicking off a guest series this week with an extra special guest blogger, Margaret Wong from Enrout! You may know Margaret as the co-founder of Project Wedding. Since then, she and her husband Joe have gone off to launch their new site Enrout, a revolutionary website where you can discover charming lodging selections and fabulous new places off the beaten path. Enrout covers everything from charming Parisian apartments with huge windows overlooking the Eiffel Tower, to San Francisco Victorian homes complete with hardwood floors, fresh produce, and a cozy armchair for reading Hemingway at night. You can read more about Margaret at the bottom of this post!
Margaret has reached out to our unmarried blogging bees that haven’t quite decided on their honeymoon yet. They’ve set a budget and a few destination parameters, and have set her off to plan their dream honeymoon based on their personalities (Margaret’s an avid Weddingbee reader!) and budget.
We present to you, the Snapdragon honeymoon in Hawaii!
~~~
The honeymoon takes place during the first days of marriage, days that are going to be remembered forever as some of the happiest days of your life. So when I was asked to design a honeymoon to Maui and Kauai for our beloved Snapdragons, I knew it had to be special.
Miss Snapdragon is a professional and a city gal, and loves a mixture of relaxation and adventure. Since their wedding venue theme is “Food and Booze,” there has to be some amazing food planned for this unforgettable trip. She also blogged about having a mix of guided tours and exploring on your own so you have a balance between relaxing during activities and doing exactly what you want.. With a ten-day honeymoon in Hawaii (5 days in Maui and 5 days in Kauai) and a $6,000 budget, the Snapdragons are in for a special treat. Here we go!
Maui - What To Do
The first five days of the honeymoon will be in the drop-dead-gorgeous island of Maui. When Miss Snapdragon went on her Sistamoon, one of her tips was to wake up early to watch the sunrise over the coastline, so this bike tour to watch the sun rise over at the summit of Mount Haleakala seems absolutely perfect…
Since the Snapdragons are adventurous, a zipline tour of Maui or a hike through the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park would be a red-hot way to spend the day…
They can also opt for a romantic helicopter tour near the beginning of their stay to get a preview of the many beaches that Maui has to offer…
A bottle of rose champagne served with blocks of cheese on the shores of black rock beach would be a fantastic way to lay back for some much-needed R&R. Maui is known for crystal clear water and bright tropical fish, so they can snorkel in Honolua Bay or lounge on the beach to their heart’s content.
Maui - Where to Eat
A Snapdragon honeymoon would not be complete without a list of Must-Eats in Maui. They love Cuban, Japanese, Vietnamese, Brazilian, and French food, so that suggests they would love to try a huge variety of cuisine in Maui. To start off the honeymoon with fireworks, the first night in Maui will be spent at a completely decked-out Luau with a lively hula and fire jugglers…
Mama’s Fish House and Lahaina Grill are two restaurants that come very highly recommended by my friends. It’s perfect for a romantic dinner by candlelight…
There are also many establishments on Maui that specialize in Hawaiian cuisine made from local ingredients, including the best gelato and shave ice in Hawaii, delicious crab mac salad, coconut shrimp, and the best pizza in Maui for a little taste of home with a twist.
Maui - Where to Stay
Ok, I’m blushing right now because we all know that people often don’t leave the bedroom on their honeymoon. Where you “sleep” is outrageously important! I found some unique places for them to stay that fit their personal style for an average of $200/night on Enrout. Miss Snapdragon loved this fresh produce stand during her Sistamoon, so I thought she would love to stay at this picturesque sustainable farm filled with farm-fresh eggs, vegetables, and a hot tub shaded by banana trees…
Or perhaps their adventurous side might be intrigued by this treehouse built 20 feet up in the air in Volcano, Hawaii. Isn’t it cool how the tree branches are incorporated into the walls and furnishings?
Since the Snapdragons love relaxing and lots and lots of candles, they might consider this upscale Hilo vacation home with huge windows overlooking a waterfall…
Stay tuned for Part II of the Snapdragons’ honeymoon, where I will continue with five days in Kauai paradise, and a full budget breakdown of the trip!
