Miss Sweet Cream's Picture
Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

One of the things that we knew had to be crossed off the list was getting our bands. After all the dances were danced, pictures were taken and kisses were kissed at our wedding, isn’t this what would last as reminder of our commitment to each other and the day that made us “man & wife?”

So, we decided to make a little trip to Philly’s-own Jewelers’ Row.

For those of you unfamiliar with this street, it’s a little part of Philly that is dedicated to, you guessed it, jewelry shops.

Mr. Sweets and I made a date of it on Valentine’s Day in February to stroll around, get some ideas and actually had the most delicious brunch to ever grace our lips at Smokin’ Betty’s (Mr. Sweets had country biscuits and gravy with homemade biscuits, sausage gravy & potato hash, and I opted for the “waffle of the Weekend” which had delicious strawberries right in the waffle. So. YUM. I might have almost bit Mr. Sweets’ hand off when he offered me a taste of his…it was THAT good).

We went home with business cards and notes from our V-day Romp Around the City and didn’t really think about it again until months later. Just around 4th of July I looked at our list of to dos and noticed that wedding band wasn’t even crossed off! So we made a trip the day of an evening Phillies game to the one-and-only Jewelers’ Row.

We need bands & we need ’em now!

So with our notes & idea in mind, we went back to a little place called Lynn Jewelers, who promised that custom work could be done & that deals could be had.

Let me tell you about Mr. Sweet Cream’s band first. The mister practically picked out his band on our February trip and immediately after carousing the jewelry cases knew that he wanted tungsten.

Mr. Sweet Cream, who is involved in the tool business and is a tool freak, had sparkles in his eyes when he first heard that there are such things as rings made of this type of stuff. I guess it just so happens that they use this metal in tools, too?

For those like me who weren’t familiar with tungsten, I refer to Wikipedia who says:

Tungsten carbide is an inorganic chemical compound containing equal parts of tungsten and carbon carbide. In its most basic form, it is a fine gray powder, but it can be pressed and formed into shapes for use in industrial machinery, tools, abrasives as well as jewelry. Tungsten carbide is approximately three times stiffer than steel and is much denser than steel or titanium.

So with the fact that it a darker metal, was tough, shiny, and that it could be used in tools, Mr. Sweets knew that he had to have a tungsten band.

And he knew that he loved a beveled edge.

But then got thrown for a loop with a concave version.

So with the Phils waiting for us, Mr. Sweets remembered what he liked about each.

Mr. Sweets trying them on for size.

And then he decided on something different! Mr. Sweets hadn’t seen this tungsten beveled edge band before with a stripe of silver going through the middle.

I am madly in love with Mr. Sweet Cream’s choice of tungsten & silver!

So just like that, he picked out his ring.

Now for me, it wasn’t so simple…

What type of band did your guy decide on to sport his finger? Was he super picky? Did his choice surprise you?

My husband has a tungsten & 18Kt white gold ring w/3 brilliant diamonds in the middle! It’s by Triton. I absolutely love your fiance’s choice in ring!

Ohh, nice choice, Mr. Sweets! Also, sounds like I need to add Smokin’ Betty’s to my list of things to do in Philly.

Very Nice! My fiance chose an 8mm white gold band with platinum inlay…..funny to see jewellers row! Our jeweller (Canzi’s Creations) right on that very street made his and is making my wedding band. Seeing pics of Philly makes me miss home!

Snazzy choice! That style was a super-close second on Mr. Tartlet’s list of rings he liked. :)

I am jealous. My fiance is an engineer, and he nearly killed me with the number of specs in his ring. I wound up ordering online, saving $500 from the original custom quote, but there was no just walking into a shop for us!

My groom picked a tungsten as well. It’s a tungsten carbide and it’s the one with the diagonal stripes- if you will. When he first picked out that ring the sales person told us that they’re indestructable and if he was ever in an accident they’d have to cut off his finger to get the ring off. Holy cow! Turns out that sales person was not correctly informed. They just have to hit it with a hammer until it cracks enough to pull apart. Phew! Love your fiance’s pick! :D

Mr. PaC was choosy about his ring. He had no idea there were so many options for men! And yes, his choice surprised me. He went traditional!

Love it! DH had the same sparkle in his eyes when he heard he could get a ring out of tungsten carbide. He’s a civil engineer and knows all the uses for it, but had no idea he could have a ring made out of that material. I think he was possibly more excited about his ring than I was about mine….and I love mine!

Mr SC’s ring looks a lot like Mr CB’s! Only instead of silver, the inlay in his is rose gold. :)

naturally like your web-site however you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very bothersome to inform the reality nevertheless I’ll definitely come again again.
