A bachelorette’s attire is not complete without some sort of headgear. In the festivities I have been involved in, this almost always means some sort of veil. They’re fun and add an extra dab of bridal to the occasion, so I love to include them for my friends.
The easiest way to create a veil in my experience is to buy a cute tiara and hot glue some tulle on it.
The problem with this plan is that these tiaras are made for little girls and do not fit the head of a grown woman. They fit on your head for about .02 second before popping off.
So, for BM So and So’s bachelorette party last weekend, I knew I had to do something that would stay on her head while still being cute, fun, and personal. I started with these materials:
Apologies for the blurry picture!
We have: tulle, hair clip, hot glue gun (aka my new BFF), needle and thread.
First, cut your tulle to the size you want. I think most bachelorette veils should be no longer than shoulder length because anything longer will get in the way of drinking and dancing. An optional next step is to fold the tulle over 1/2″ on one side and sew it up. You don’t have to do this step, but it will make the next step easier since you’ll have a nice clean edge.
Next take your tulle and start folding in 1/2″ accordion folds. I couldn’t get a good picture of this while in the process, but this is an accordion fold in case you’re not familiar with one:

Once you have folded your tulle about ten times, you should grab your needle and thread and start sewing that stuff together. Luckily, your stitches don’t have to look great (or even good) because it will be hidden when you glue it to the hair clip. The main goal is just to get the tulle to stay together, so you can put those stitches any which direction works. Continue folding and sewing the tulle until you have the whole side sewn together, making it look something like this:
Next, grab your hair clip and go see your BFF (aka the hot glue gun) put a big ol’ blob of glue on your bunched up tulle and stick it to the hair pin. Make sure to stick it on part of the pin that doesn’t move so it won’t fall off when you’re placing if on the bachelorette’s head.
Next, add some embellishment. I would say this is optional, but it’s totally not: embellishment is a must for a bachelorette. I chose a simple bow for BM So and So’s veil. All I did was tie a bow, stitch it in the middle twice and then sewed it onto the tulle bunch you just carefully glued onto your hair clip.
Threading the bow to the tulle
Continue to thread the bow through tulle. I even thread this through the top portion of the hair clip a few times to keep the bow and tulle even more secure.
And you’re done*! Now you model your newly made veil:
This veil cost me less than $1 to make, but I thought it was super cute and was really versatile for BM So and So’s night on the town.
*Note: if you use a fine tulle, you may consider using fray check on the edges or finishing the edges in some other fashion. If you don’t want to worry about this, use a tulle that has a larger netting that won’t fray.
What accessories are the must haves for your bachelorette party?
