About Mrs. Elephant

After our toasts it was time to take a spin around the dance floor with Daddy E to Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World.

Passport To Love: A Caribbean Twist : wedding dallas pictures pro pics recap 14701 14701

I don’t know what it was, but the second this song started…

…and I was in the arms of my father, the tears just started flowing.

I am so lucky to have an amazing relationship with my parents. They have always been there for both of their children. They encouraged us to always do our best and reach the potential that they knew we had inside. They provided for us and afforded us the opportunities that they did not get to enjoy when they were younger. They have always been my biggest supporters, and they continue to be now for Mr. E and me. Dancing with my dad was one of those (many) moments that I realized how lucky I am to have the love and support of my parents.

Daddy E was trying to keep it together for the both of us. He sang the words to the song in between telling me how much he loved me and how amazed he was with how everything came together.

I knew I needed to dry those tears because towards the end of the song there was a Caribbean switch.

We had planned a few weeks before the wedding to add a Caribbean twist to our father daughter dance. This was really to add some of my dad’s music into the wedding (since he didn’t know about the steel drums for the ceremony). Daddy E was in his own element.

We told the bridal party in advance so they could help to get the crowd to the dance floor. This was a very easy tasks for all of our guests from Trinidad and Tobago (the islands that my dad grew up on).

Dollar Wine is a family favorite, maybe because the tape of it (and other Caribbean songs) was always played during our drives from PA to Jersey or New York.

I love that we were able to add just a little more of Daddy’s E heritage into our wedding day, and this was a great way to open up the dance floor and get everyone in on the Caribbean love.

What song will you be using for your father daughter dance?

I have been reading your posts since you started but also I’ve been reading the bee for a very long time and I must say that your photos show some of the most happy and loved people I have ever seen on the site.

You and Mr. E show sooo much love for one another and I continue to be surprised at the amount of happiness that emanates from your photos. Congratulations again! The song looks like it was a hit!

@MsBrooklynA: What you said is so incredibly sweet! It really has been such an amazing experience sharing our wedding journey with the hive and getting comments like that truly make my heart smile!

@CupCakeMeg: I cried too when I saw these pictures. I’m dying to see what it looked like on video!

@Mrs. Ostrich: Thank you so much Mrs. O! I am so sorry that not everyone is able to experience this :(

@MrsSl82be: Well we didn’t get a shocked expression like I was hoping for because we had to tell him about it at the rehearsal dinner. We handed out time lines for everyone and the steel drums were listed on there so we told him then. He did love every moment of it at the ceremony and we had a great time listening on the balcony before we walked down the aisle.

Ah the steel drums. I remember the winding turns that it took to get them. I am so happy everything worked out for you and I am glad to see you and your dad. All through your journey, I’ve seen how your brother and parents helps so much with their time and effort. Invites? Check. Out of town bags? Check…You are lucky to have such an amazing family and it’s good to see them having so much fun :)

This post makes me smile for a number of reasons. 1. My FFIL is from Honduras, so I’ve really been researching how to include that background in our wedding and I think our reception is how I’ll do it. 2. I have a great relationship with my dad and I can’t wait for our father-daughter dance.
This post really made me smile.

TEARS, E. Not only for the sweet dance you shared with your dad, but also how joyous everyone looks during the Caribbean switch.

@Miss Kettle: my family’s cuban and my sister got a Caribbean band to play along to the DJ, so even the non-Hispanic songs had a latin twist with some trumpets and bongos. It was SO fun. I know there’s a large cuban population in Chicago-maybe there’s something like that there.
@Mrs. Elephant: I legit cried like an idiot at your pictures. So beautiful! You can tell how much love you have for your dad. And you definitely don’t have the “ugly” cry face, haha! You still look so pretty-even with tears in your eyes! I know when I dance with my dad, I’m going to be a hot mess. lol

@MissIcecream: I will look it up. But I think the music that his family listens to is more Reggaeton than latin. They’re more west caribbean, so not really officially latin or caribbean. Think curry chicken while speaking spanish.
