I totally forgot to mention one of the most important parts of our wedding morning! As I was getting my hair done, my mom pulled up a seat next to me and said she had a special gift that she wanted the share with me. Then, she pulled out this little journal and an envelope.

Immediately, I loved it. You guys know my love for butterflies. Not only that, but I’ve always loved to write and my mom knows this about me.
My mom immediately apologized for her atrocious handwriting (it really is pretty bad, sorry Mom!), but I wasn’t paying that any attention; I was too busy reading the words on the enveloped that I knew she so carefully thought out.
“To my daughter who had turned into a beautiful butterfly in my life…”
Inside the card was a really sweet message:
“To the gem of my heart, Sara. As you become one with another, I give you words of encouragement that come from my heart… Always have patience, love, and kindness in your heart. The journey, at times, will be rough but always remember this day when you said your vows in front of God and to Aaron.
Anchor yourself in prayer always and God will fill your heart with the place he wants you to be. Hold dear to the times of laughter and joy, the same as tears and hardships. God’s journey for you guys will bless you and make you stronger.
You made the right choice in your partner for life. I love him because I know he will stand by you as your father and I have. I’m eager to watch you two continue to grow. I am very proud of you and Aaron.
We both are going into new chapters. I have not only taught you in this life, but you have also taught me life lessons. You have been an anchor in my life. I love you. Enjoy your day. Mom.”
We both got a little choked up. Obviously.
I mean, it may not have seemed like it in the weeks leading up to the wedding—with all the focus being on our DIY and finding a dress, etc.—but my mom knew it wasn’t all fun, glue sticks, and tulle. We were crossing over a big bridge today.
Oh gosh, you guys! I get choked up just looking at these pictures. I love you, Mama Brooch!
Looking back, I’m really glad that we did little special things like this the morning of the wedding, because they’re the moments we remember and hold dear forever. Sure, there is a lot to do that day, but ladies, please make sure you take a few minutes to stop and smell the roses, or at least let your mom tell you how proud of you she is. Everything else can wait.
Did you have a special time with your mom the morning of your wedding?
