Mr. Teaspoon and I unashamedly chose our first-dance song well before we were engaged, and it is absolutely positively perfect for us!
Let me take you back to, oh, March 2010. I was Googling CDs with his collection next to me to work out if there were any he didn’t have to make for a good birthday present. You see, Mr. Teaspoon is a HUGE Dave Matthews fan, like has every CD and DVD and that means each song can be played in like five different locations. However, then I came across this strange looking CD cover:

I checked out the playlist and YouTube’d (I like to turn nouns into verbs—I’m cool like that) a few of the songs to see what they were like and found this little treasure:

My favourite part of the song is the part about teaching our kids to fly. I absolutely love it! So, as soon as Mr. Teaspoon came home, I casually let it play from the computer and asked him if he liked it (all the while thinking it was our PERFECT wedding song). He listened and stared off into space and said,
“This is great. We could have this as our first dance song.” HOORAAYYYY!!! I jumped up and down and when I realised he was looking at me like I had twp heads, I explained, “That’s exactly what I was thinking!” Needless to say, I bought him the CD for his birthday!
This song, however, is a little tricky to dance to due to the typical irregular beat of Dave Matthews tunes, but as we like to dance to our own beat (in other words, I am incapable of following a beat), I think we will be fine!

My FI is a huge DMB fan too! And I love that song! Your first dance will be so memorable.
Yay!! This was our song too and the “when the kids are old enough we gonna teach them to fly” part was our smile moment… can’t help but smile just saying that part 
This was my sister’s first dance song as well and they had their rings engraved “You and Me”. It’s such an amazing song!
I love DMB too - we’re dancing to Steady as We Go for our first song. We’ve been through a lot of family sickness, and hard times since we starting dating 5 years - so it’s perfect! We too - will be dancing to our own beat!!
Ohhhh, DMB! Super sentimental about them since they were one of my favorite bands since high school, even. Love that song!

We are picking between this and “Oh.” Both are great and we are also big DMB fans. @amyellabella: Such a fabulous idea — that might be the tipping point for picking this one!
I love that song! Even before me and my fiance were together he always thought of me when he heard that song. While it’s not our first dance song, it will be the song we enter our reception to!
My fiance is also a giant DMB fan - my first bday gift to him was tickets to their concert, and her LOVED it

This was my FI’s brother’s first dance song! I so so love it even more because of that. It’s an amazing choice!
I understand. This is one of the few songs that the MR. wanted on the favor cd’s and how could I deny such a wonderful request.
I can’t say I’m well-versed on my DMB, but that song is really pretty and a great Teaspoon first dance choice 
We *almost* used “Dream Girl” as our first dance song, I heart DMB soooo much!!

It is so funny to have so many people not only love DMB but actually know who they are! Not many people in Aus have even heard of them.
My guy added “You & Me” to our playlist. In college, I had DMB on heavy rotation. It’s a beautiful song with great lyrics — I can see why you both love it.
