Mrs. Parasol's Picture
Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

Hive, I’ve always known that Mr. Parasol is pretty awesome. He makes me laugh, he cooks me delicious food, he puts up with my craziness on a daily basis. But a few days ago, he completely surpassed all of my expectations for just how awesome he can be.

A few posts back, I told you about how I started working on our photo-booth props, even though I had no idea how we were going to make the actual photo booth itself. Well, I guess that’s not completely true. I knew how to make the photo booth, I just didn’t feel confident in my own abilities to do so. While I’m fairly adept in the world of crafts and DIY projects, I’m not very handy when it comes to tools, woodworking, or building some sort of structure, and I knew that I couldn’t make the photo booth myself.

Enter Mr. Parasol to save the day!

Even though Mr. Parasol was only with me in Northern California for a few days, he took it upon himself to make me the most spectacular photo booth ever. He modestly claims that the project was really easy for him, but I’m still unbelievably impressed by his abilities. Check out his amazing work!

Ta-da! Photo booth! / Personal photo

Mr. Parasol and I are totally thrilled with this handmade photo booth, and I now have complete confidence that Mr. Parasol can build anything we ever need. As I said, he remains adamant that this was a fairly simple project to tackle, and all it really took was a few wooden boards, some screws, and a curtain rod. Now all that’s left is for me to make some sort of fabric backdrop to hang from the curtain rod, and this photo booth is ready!

Has your significant other ever blown you away with their DIY abilities?

Wow!!! VERY NICE!!!! Though my FI is handy, but I’m not sure he’d tackle something like this.
Of course, I probably wouldn’t ask him because I make my brother do all the construction/carpentry work I want/need. My brother DOES work for one of THE BEST construction companies around… He made my card box and his wife offered to paint it.
What good is a carpenter brother if you can’t have him do the work for you? ;)

@Ryna: Haha, I totally agree! You should definitely put your carpenter brother to work on wedding projects (read: photo booth!) for you! This project was soooo easy and affordable!

This is such a cool idea! And so much more affordable than renting a photo booth. I feel like I totally have to do this now…

Originally we were going to have a DIY photobooth, but just ran out of time to really do a good job on it and when the idea of doing it DIY started to stress me out, we went with the professionals.

I can’t wait to see what fabric you come up with to use for the background. You should do more than one so they can pull it from one side to the other, makes for more picture options and all that.

Mr. P must be loving the wedding bee love he gets around here. I can’t wait to see the finished project! Do you have a particular background in mind for the photo booth Miss P?
