Puttin’ Fuzzies on a Cake

August 5th, 2011 @ 1:05 pm by Mrs. Magic

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but it’s like, two days until our wedding. OK, ninety something. Whatever…feels like two. Anyways, today a thought struck me as I was driving along. We need a cake topper! And the best place to go for cake toppers, in my humble opinion, is Lollipop Workshop on Etsy.

But, last time I checked, that shop was temporarily closed. And sure enough, it’s still closed. The Lollipops are on vacation in Norway.

What the hell.

Maybe they’ll get back in time to make a mini Miss Magic and a mini Mister Magic and a mini Mizz and a mini Monster (you know, our cats)…but maybe not.

So…how awesome would it be to have some fuzzy poms on a cake? It’d be totally awesome, right?

Would yarn poms leave fuzzies in the icing though?

I think it will depend in the fiber you use to make the balls out of. Their is a bloom with fibers depending how they are spun. I like, no, love the suspened yarn balls, that is too sweet

Spray them with a fixative, maybe? The ones directly on the cake look more risky than the ones above…

I don’t know if they would but the image from Full Wedding Sources is ADORABLE! I might eat fuzzy cake if it looked like that.

I ordered a Lollipop Workshops cake topper, but I started checking their site 15 months before out wedding cause they’re always closed till I finally got ahold of them. as it is I ordered it months ago and it still won’t be delivered for a month or two so you’re probably doing well to go with the fuzzies (so cute!). I would say go with something like the first photo and the icing will be fine :)

I didn’t know Lollipop Workshop could be so difficult to get a hold of. I hope they weren’t affected by the recent attacks in Norway. :(

I love the pom garland cake topper! So fun!

Yes, the fuzzy poms would be totally awesome on a cake! And totally do-able yourself! No idea about the fuzzies, but surely no one would mind picking a few off if need be :)

I’d say only yarn poms directly on the cake if it’s fondant, but I LOVE the poms in a banner. So cute!

If you did fondant, it shouldn’t stick, since the fondant is smooth. However, if it was buttercream, you’d probably have fuzzies.

Also, I love love LOVE those poms. We’re doing dahlias. Like poms, only flowers ;)

I think the garland one wouldn’t leave any fuzzies-plus it’s so cute!

Hehehe, SO CUTE. I’m partial to the poms as a banner—I doubt those would leave any fuzzies :) Adorable.

Fuzzy poms - uber cute :) Dunno about the icing risk though…

I’m in the pom-garland. Super cute, solves the fuzzies problem and adds dimensionality (is that a word?) to your cake. And they’re poms, duh. Whatever you decide will be super cute and magical. ;)

the poms are adorable! I would definitely go that route. The poms are very colorful and cheerful! The first thing I ordered when I got engaged was the lollipopworkshop topper… I ordered around March/April and I got an e-mail the other day stating that delivery would be postponed until mid-August.
