Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
About Mrs. Bacon

Inspiration Overload

August 8th, 2011 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Bacon

I’ve spent the last year (and some change) watching every wedding TV show around: Four Weddings, Platinum Weddings, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, and the list goes on—anything with a white dress in it was locked in on our TiVo. I’m the girl that had a subscription to Brides before I was even engaged. Really. I was combing all the wedding blogs I’d ever thought of on a daily basis. I have been living in wedding inspiration central what seems like forever and this tulle induced haze has been magnificent.

But here’s the reality: we’re just over one month from the wedding and if I get any more inspiration and add any more projects to my list, the Baconator might explode. As it is, we might be a teensy bit over the budget and we just spent the whole last weekend completing wedding projects. So to avoid adding some uber cute bunting or another paper and ribbon project, I’m giving my stack of wedding magazines away and I’m deleting my scheduled recordings of wedding TV and I’m slowly starting to accept that my days of wedding planning are numbered.

OK, so I’m not really accepting that last bit about wedding planning eventually coming to an end. I’m super excited that I’m going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding at the end of the year and that I’ll have recaps to keep me busy and active on Weddingbee for a while. So I might be a bit of a wedding junkie, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that!

Did you hit a point when inspiration was going to do more harm than good? Am I the only one?

No Miss Bacon,

You are not the only one. I too said enough is enough. I”m not taking on any more projects, spending any more money etc…. lol

I do however still like to watch Four Weddings…..lol Have you heard anything from them? The last I heard was Chicago was pending.

You are NOT alone!! My wedding is in just a few weeks, and I have had to quit looking at most DIY projects for fear of finding something that I JUST HAVE TO HAVE - but that doesn’t really fit in with my wedding, or time line.

Stay strong Bacon!!

There comes a point when you have to step away from the search for inspiration and say “enough.” Sounds like that’s where you are. Expect some withdrawal symptoms, though…you’ll have to find other ways to spend your time (good practice for after your wedding!).

I am totally there with you, Miss Bacon! The inspiration is vast and sometimes, I think, it takes away from the original idea when I keep adding to it. There’s a Chanel quote I’ve heard… Something like, “when accessorizing, always take off the last piece you put on.” It’s actually worked well for my planning (and budget)!

I don’t know if this helps or not but I STILL watch all those shows, even though it’s been about 15 months since my wedding!

You’re not the only one! I really need to stop adding or wanting to add projects since we’re getting married next month! But, like TM, I’ll probably keep watching those shows long after our wedding, I like them too much :)

I’m like you — enough is enough. But that might be because I didn’t love planning my wedding, and I was so glad to just have my ideas and be through with it!

Yes I am on overload and I will be sad when it is all over. Maybe we should be wedding planners! However, the wonderful thing is that, in the end, we will all be married! Then, the real fun starts. ;)

I’m just you….I’m not looking forward to the day when I have to shut it down to avoid driving my guy crazy

I know exactly how you feel! I might have had the entire wedding vision complete about 4 months into an 18 month engagement. I threw the wedding mags out around 7 months in (last month). Right now, I’m just focusing on making my dreams into reality without going overbudget or driving myself crazy with DIY crafts.

Definitely agree! I have been recording them for watching after the wedding!

Although, not sure I have ever seen anything in My big fat gypsy wedding and thought “I want to have that!”

I haven’t really combed over tons of stuff for inspiration, but my mother has. I have to stop her when she starts pulling out piles of magazine clippings. I usually can quickly spot the ones that match what I already have in mind then I kindle request she puts the rest up. I can’t imagine having those 2 min of overload stretched over a period of days/weeks/months!
But when you see all the little details come together for your big day, you’ll be glad you did all the projects.

In the last month or two of planning I stopped reading wedding blogs (aside from Weddingbee, of course) because it was doing more harm than good. It was inspiration overload, and I needed to focus on my own else I pull my hair out!

I’m still early in the wedding planning process, but I already feel like I’m on inspiration overload! I seriously can’t keep up with all the blogs, articles and tv shows. The projects are just starting, so I can’t really tune out all the good ideas just yet. The problem with all this inspiration is that I’m having a hard time narrowing-down my ideas - everything just looks so amazing!
