Mrs. Macarons, Tampa Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man Engagement Date: September 12, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Lange Farm About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
About Mrs. Macarons

While Macs and I hoped for an adults-only celebration, it wasn’t in the cards. A few of our nearest and dearest are traveling great lengths (we’re talking internationally) to come celebrate with us. There’s no way we’d expect them to leave their little ones back home, let alone at a hotel with a sitter they’ve never met.

Everyone has assured me their children are well behaved but I’d like to stack the deck in our favor just to be safe. I know the foofers will be a big hit, what toddler doesn’t like throwing things? But I needed something else to keep them occupied up until that point.

Coloring books are quite popular but any old ones simply wouldn’t do. I was going to illustrate my own (yes, I’m that crazy) but that idea was immediately thrown out the window when I found these:

Keeping the Minions, I Mean Children, Quiet. : wedding kids tampa 1213933 1213933

Can you believe it?! I love that we’re able to give each of them a copy of my favorite childhood story and our ceremony reading. At forty-eight pages long, it also means ample quiet time for even the quickest colorer. I really hope our friends appreciate the book just as much as the little ones.

Will you have younger guests at your wedding? What are you doing to keep them entertained?

I put together Gable Boxes because they looked like happy meals. Coloring books, crayons, colored pens, glow in the dark bracelets, stickers, and animal crackers (Yay for sugar free snacks!). All of the parents couldn’t believe I went to the trouble for the wee ones. They kids were so excited to get presents at my wedding.

I’m definitely borrowing this idea for my wedding. We also have an unexpectedly large number of children who will probably be attending.

It’s a wonderful book, but the little ones have a short attention span. So don’t be surprised if in 10 minutes time they start running around again.

I love this book! What a thoughtful idea–a friend of mine recently went to a wedding with her son, and spent the entire night in a corner trying to entertain him and keep him quiet. I’m sure your guests will appreciate the gesture. :)

Our guest list is small, 80 people, BUT when I added the kids in it suddenly became HUGE! I seriously get a tight chest just thinking about it. Anywho, I met with the owner of our venue and she has given us the go ahead to rent an outdoor bounce palace and turn the barn (included in rental fees!) into kid zone! I plan on having quite a bit of no-mess, hands on activities for all ages. Funny part is, my ex’s nieces have actually ASKED to do the “babysitting”. Let me add that children are welcome at the ceremony but I also want our friends/family to be able to have enjoy themselves.

@Ms.Shamrock: I hadn’t thought of using Gable boxes - I just might have to copy your idea! No crayons or markers though; we’re opting for colored pencils b/c crayons will likely melt and markers will badly mar the flower girls’ pristine white dresses…

Those coloring books are going to be a huge hit! We aren’t having children at the wedding but I might order one just for me :)
