So now on to the closest to living element of the wedding day, other than the people in it, of course—the flowers! Included with our reception venue are the floral centrepieces, and we just have a few hundred to choose from out of their book of designs. So, the bouquets are what I have been concentrating on, and namely MY bouquet!
I thought I would just go with a bunch of white roses for me and a bunch of slightly smaller white roses for my girls—now I’m not so sure, as I have been thrust into a world of ridiculously creative and beautiful weddings to be found in the world of the blogger! Bridal magazines hardly help, either.
Then I was over at my future in-laws house one evening in September last year, and they had been to the growers’ markets that day and bought some flowers—beautiful white ranunculus. Lucky me, I took a pretty little picture for my ever-expanding wedding file, because at the time I had NO idea what they were called!
I scoured the Google machine and found the perfect little posey! Really shows off the beautiful layers of the ranunculus, doesn’t it? And there are a few double-petal tulips in there, too, apparently. My flower prowess is becoming obvious, isn’t it?

I went to the florist all pumped up for ranunculus, only to be informed that we might not be able to get them. Sometimes it doesn’t get warmer in Australia until a bit later—we have a bit of a warm up for a few weeks in August, then it gets colder again usually, but last year that didn’t happen so the ranunculus wouldnt grow! Needless to say, I set forth in search of more inspiration and stumbled across my lovely neighbour* Nicole’s wedding photo:

Now, I believe some of the flowers in her bouquet are actually David Austin roses, but they give that same soft, beautiful effect, don’t you think?
How often do you get to spend over $100 on a bunch of flowers and carry them around with you all day without looking like a complete weirdo? One day: your wedding day (OK, not including bridesmaid participation)!
Then I was at another wedding (if you are keeping up, yes I am 27 and ALL of my friends are getting married at the moment!), and they had some similar freesia and other “soft” flowers, and by the end of the night the boys’ boutonnieres and the girls’ bouquets were nowhere to be seen! I, being the inquisitive bride that I am, asked about them a few days later, and the bride explained that with all the hugging and being thrown around the flowers had basically been left in various parts of the reception and church because they all fell apart!
So just like that, as quick as a snap, I was back to roses again? Boy oh boy, how will a florist keep up? I can’t keep up! When I met with the florist, she suggested bringing some colour into the bouquets, either in a yellow or a pink, and I can’t believe I had overlooked pink in the past! Then I found the bouquet that has it all—different types of ranunculus, I think I spot a peony and a lily, and of course, pink! I wouldnt mind a bit more berry, eucalyptus, freesia, or something in there to really seal the deal, but I have to say we are mighty close!

How on earth did you decide on the flowers for your bouquet?
*Disclaimer: Nicole Kidman is not my actual neighbour and, yes, I am aware that she was also born in the USA, but she got married right near where I went to high school and her dad’s medical practice is just down the road from Mr. Teaspoon’s parents’ house! So, close enough…
