Bunting, Bunting Everywhere!

August 9th, 2011 @ 4:03 pm by Mrs. Parasol

It’s official, hive: I love bunting! Seriously, I could have been Miss Bunting in another life. I don’t really know what triggered this obsession, but I started seeing it everywhere, and I just loved it! As you can tell from the glimpses I’ve given you of our wedding invitations, I’ve found some fun and creative ways to incorporate bunting into our wedding. Recently I’ve been on a bunting kick and have made what feels like miles and miles of fabric bunting, and I want to share this project with you today.

Materials:

  • Fabric (I chose a variety of patterns in our wedding colors.)

  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Bunting template (I made this in Word. I basically created a rectangle shape and a triangle shape and put them together. Easy peasy.)

This next part was probably the hardest, because all I did was pin and cut over and over and over again. By the end, my back was killing me.

After what felt like forever, I finally had all my bunting pieces cut out and ready to go!

I wish I could say that I charged on through with this project, but I needed to take a little respite after all that pinning and cutting. But after a few days, I returned with renewed energy to sew these little guys onto some hemp string and finish this project. And it certainly helped that Mama Parasol volunteered to do all of my pinning. Go, Mama P, go!

After many hours of hard work, I finally had all the bunting I could ever want (well, not really). And it looks fabulous.

OK, you can’t really tell how amazing the bunting looks in this picture because the wind was blowing like crazy. (Here’s hoping there’s no wind on our wedding day!) But I swear, the bunting really is awesome! And I can’t wait to see what it all looks like at our wedding!

Any other sewing bees out there? What sewing projects have you been working on lately, wedding related or not?

I’m right there with you! I’m sewing these little triangles and also attaching letters on each one to spell “here comes the bride”. It’s going to end up being two drapes of bunting with “here comes” on the first level and “the bride” on the second level. My two flower girls are going to each hold a side and walk down the aisle before I head down.

Love the sewing and all the personalized DIY touches!

Hurrah for bunting! Haha, I may have initially capitalized the ‘b’. (I’m just so used to doing that now!) Your bunting looks wonderful! The cutting can certainly get tiresome. We used a sharp rotary blade and metal ruler to cut through multiple layers at once for ours, and because the blade was rotary we didn’t have to pin our template down to keep it from slipping!

So cute! I’m going to live vicariously through you because Mr. Pony vetoed bunting for our wedding :)

I sewed bunting for our appetizer table and another for our sweets table and it added just the right amount of color. I loved it and it was a really easy project just a little time consuming with all the cutting and to be honest I used about half as many pins.

Sewing is something I do…sometimes… and I have done several sewing projects (do NOT get me started on the ring pillow.. UGH!). But the pins love pricking my fingers way too much.
LOOOOVE what you did! Can’t wait to see it at the wedding!!! :D

Love it! I was going to suggest rotary cutters and self healing mat, with metal or special plastic ruler for others who take this on—but I see it’s already been suggested!

I’m trying to think of things to sew for my wedding…I can’t think of a way to work my quilting in tastefully (and still formally). Hopefully I’ll think of something and be sewing away soon!

Love it! My own pile of bunting flags is sitting there waiting to be fray checked and fabri-tacked onto double bias tape. In other words, I’m no seamstress - I’m totally relying on adhesives to see me through these projects! Fun to see yours!

@Miss Honey: Haha, you’re so right! I’m totally having a love affair with bunting! Shhh–don’t tell Mr. P!
@MrsBiz: Oh my gosh, that idea is adorable! I would so steal if it I weren’t already up to my eyeballs in projects. I do have burlap bunting with “Just Married” on it, and I want to make another that says, “I Do, We Did.”
@Mrs. Bunting: Oh Bunting, where were you when I was hunched over yards of fabric for hours at a time? Rotary cutters, how you haunt me!
@Miss Pony: That’s so funny that Mr. Pony vetoed bunting! I was boarder line on it when I showed Mr. Parasol a list of DIY projects, and he instantly picked out the bunting and was like, “Ohhhh, that is amazing. We HAVE to do that.”

@Lo: Yeah, I totally love the table bunting! I may or may not have made more bunting for our guestbook, gift, and dessert tables. :)
@Ryna: I totally feel you there. I love sewing, I usually am pretty good, but I’m not great, and pins totally have a way of finding the tips of my fingers. And I really want to see your ring pillow now, even though it sounds stressful!
@Rachie: Thank you! It took lots of patience, but it was so worth it.
@aggiebride10: Ohhh, I hope you can find a way to work in quilting! That would be awesome! Maybe you could provide squares for your guests to sign and then sew them into a sort of quilt guestbook. That would be so awesome!
@Miss Teaspoon: Thanks, Teaspoon! Even though the work is hard, you’re so right–it’s all worth it!
@Miss Ladyfingers: Yay! We should have made our bunting together, Ladyfingers! How fun would that be? Can’t wait to see yours! :)

Cute! The fabric patterns you chose are perfect. :) Learning how to operate a sewing machine has long been on my list of “things to do.”

I am so tickled because I put together the exact same template in Word for my bunting banner I made! I’ll be posting about it in a couple days. :D

@Miss Pony: Although the inspiration pics of lovely buntings have been in my stack I’ve filtered through with Mr. D, I have not specifically pointed out the bunting for fear of a veto (its much easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, isn’t it?!!)

I love your bunting colors… and the bunting itself. I need to learn how to sew so I can make bunting too!
