About Mrs. Teaspoon

A Book for the Guests

August 9th, 2011 @ 8:42 am by Mrs. Teaspoon

I’m interested to know if any of those who are married have ever sat down and read their guestbook? I’m guessing the answer is probably about 90% no…OK, maybe you read it once the day or two after the wedding, but after that? Shoved in a cupboard somewhere taking up space with all the other things you dont want to throw away, right?

That is why I think we need to rethink our guestbook. This is our current guestbook, all traditional and whatnot, which we received as a gift at our engagement party:

A Book for the Guests : wedding guestbook sydney Photo208 photo208

This all seemed perfectly apt until I discovered the fingerprint guestbook! What with all the personality and love that would go into this, and then the fact that we get to hang it on our wall, I am obsessed! Our walls are particularly bare at the moment, and to have something hanging up that means so much would be such a treat!

So, this is what I will attempt to emulate in my never ending pursuit of DIY:

Being that Pop Teaspoon is an artist, it might be his job to create one of these masterpieces for us! Or even soon-to-be Brother in Law Teaspoon—he has quite the creative side and is very good with an ink pen! Might not have to DIY this after all? Might be a case of “someone else do it”? Best option ever!

However, we also have to have a stack of baby wipes on hand to ensure that no one ends up with ink on their fingers all night!

My FI and I had the same thought!! Except our concept is slightly different.
We will buy a large picture frame and a white poster board.
We plan on putting the poster board in the frame and will put a picture of my FI and I in the middle. Then all our guests can then sign whatever they want around our picture!! Its a fun idea.
After the reception we will put the whole thing together and then instead of a book that gets dusty on the shelf, we will hang it on whatever wall we want. People will see it and talk about it.And it will not be hidden!! I like that!

Love that idea! I wanted ours to be a little different so I put black and white photos of DH & I on black pages and had guests write in silver ink. I was a little disappointed the day after the wedding when we went to read all of our guests lovely advice and such because it looks like less than half of our guests signed it. i’m wondering if it just wasn’t put in a good spot (right when they walked in!) oh well :-P Yes, I’ve only looked it at that one time and now it’s in a box lol I love your idea

Love your idea! My FI and I are doing the large picture frame with matting around it for people to sign. After the wedding we’ll be able to hang it in our home and see it everyday! I love the alternatives to the “traditional” guest book.

We are having people sign 12″ vinyl records with customized labels - I have custom frames for the already made so we can hang them up.

Cute idea! We did read ours the day after the wedding, but ours was also a photo book of our e-pics so we’d have an excuse to go back and look at the guestbook again. :)

We did the tree at our wedding two weeks ago and it was a HUGE hit. People were blown away by it and are still raving about it. It came out SO BEAUTIFUL and I couldn’t be more happy with it!!! My 84 year old grandmother actually drew the tree for us and it makes it that much more special. Your guests will love it!

We did a book of our e-pics and had questions for people to andswer like “mr and mrs are perfect for each other because” and left pages for notes. I do read mine occaissionally because some of them are so funny.

I do love these guestbook alternatives! In the end, we couldn’t find something that really clicked with us, so we’re going the traditional route and asking people very specifically to share their advice or tell a funny story about us in the guestbook - so we don’t just get a list of names!

We are doing the fingerprint tree idea next week at our wedding. I am an artist, so I drew it myself. I have never seen the idea in real life, so I am hoping it comes out cute to hang in our home.

I have never been big on the guestbook idea at anyone’s wedding, let alone mine. So, long story short, one of the GM is a Fab.u.lous artist & has agreed to find a long & narrow canvas to paint for us.
The only requirements that I have asked for is that the background be our wedding colors & it include our (hee hee…OUR… I love say ing that!) last name. Our guest list is 80 people so there should be plenty of room for well wishes. :)

I love this idea! I can’t wait to see how it turns out because I’ve been looking for unique ideas for a guestbook. There’s no way I want a traditional one.
