Like the steadiness act of the tightrope walker, this gal is busy balancing life while planning a wedding to the man of her dreams. We’re hosting a laid-back, vintage-inspired, bird themed wedding with heavy doses of love, good eats (did someone say tacos and margaritas?), and endless Texas charm. Mr. High Wire and I are so happy to have you along for the walk across the tight rope.

Keeping It Simple: The Guestbook

August 10th, 2011 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. High Wire

It took me a really long time to make a decision on our guest book for the wedding. You can add it to the huge list of things that wound up being a lot more important to me than I initially realized (others include invitations, bridesmaid shoes, and extreme promptness with my thank you Notes).

Before we were engaged, if someone asked me about our guestbook (although no one would actually do that), this is what I had in mind:

But, as I got more and more interested in weddings and then started to plan our very own nuptials, I realized there are a lot more options out there!

Lots of brides and grooms are opting to include a guestbook including their guests’ thumbprints:

For a long time I was really lusting after some beautiful guestbook card boxes:

Some even use musical instruments! What a crazy cool idea:

How about a guestbook ball?

The possibilities are really endless as long as you have a good pen!

As the days dwindle down and the bank accounts cry out in protest at yet another wedding-related purchase, we kept it simple (and inexpensive) on our guestbook endeavors and wound up with a simple, standard guestbook.

I’m actually really looking forward to having a concise and complete list of all the people who were able to share in our special day, without having to worry about any additional bells and whistles, fancy pens, or pads of ink.

What are you doing for your guestbook?

I want to make a quilt. Super ambitious, I know, but I love the idea of sleeping under the well wishes of our family and friends.

OK, I just have to comment that I LOVE the blue french horn! I think someone is a fan of How I Met Your Mother!

Blue French Horn!!! I wish I’d thought of that for ours! But sometimes I guess it’s better to just keep it simple, especially as you’re getting so close!

@ Miss Parasol: That was my first thought!
@ CurlyRN: That is a super ambitious idea and I love it. Let me know how it works out if you do and how to wash it if it gets dirty.

Now that I see this thought written out, I can see why it would be nice just to have a good list. I really love the I Do Engraveables frames. It’s a lot like the regular frame, but people write on metal with a diamond pen…very permanent. If we can find $ in the budget, I also want to do a photo booth that people can also write in, so will have a list, hopefully!

I second Miss Parasol’ comment! And we still don’t know what we are doing for a guestbook, in the end there’s a good chance we will do the very same thing you and Mr High Wire chose (darn those dwindling bank accounts).

I love that big colorful balloon/bike one, it’s so cute! I think there’s so many creative things, but sometimes it’s nice to not have to think about something super cool and just buy something for once.

Throughout wedding planning I am constantly reminding myself to KISS (keep it simple stupid!). I think there is something to be said about your beautiful and traditional guest book! I wish I could take my own advice, but we are going with the photo book of epics for our guests to sign. Not so simple…

We are doing a wish tree…. then taking all the signed wishes and making a scrap book with the photos taken,

I went to a wedding where they had an engraving plate as the guest book. For me, writing on it was like nails on a chalkboard. It was over two years ago and I still cringe thinking about it. We went to a wedding with another engraving plate as the guest book this May and I didn’t sign because I had such heebie-jeebies from my first experience.

We decided to do one of these frames (not this one exactly), which we’ll put a wedding picture in afterwards:

Ours is a puzzle that the guests will sign and we can frame it later!

I loooooooove the bicycle/thumbprint balloons! One of my regrets is not having a concise list of up-to-date addresses of guests who attended our wedding, so I’m sure that will come in handy!

You can do something almost as simple as a plain guest book but with a little pizazz. If you log onto cvs.com you can create a photo book with as many photos as you’d like. Their layouts leave room for you to type in captions or leave as blank space (for your guests to sign in!)

It’s just a more personal, fun, easy, and very inexpensive way to do it - I just finished mine and it’s adorable! Guests will be using black, silver, and gold sharpies to write with. Best of luck!

Yay for simple standard guestbooks! We went through the same process - what to do, look at all this creative stuff… nah, let’s go standard. And yours is beautiful!

This is the first explanation of a simple guest book I’ve seen, like, ever! It has definitely tempered (a little) my desire for a fancy schmancy unique book. I guess we’ll see what happens as planning goes along.

The Polaroid Guestbook! I didn’t mind putting money and effort into something we will have forever. Plus I cannot wait to see the photos and read it the next day!
