About Mrs. Pony

…Mr. Pony will buy me another diamond ring? Not how that goes? Darn.

A couple of weeks ago, I pulled out all the stuff we’ll need to complete a mock up of the tables for our reception. I’ve had this vision in my mind for well over a year, but never actually put everything together myself so I was nervous it would look terrible and I would need to come up with a new plan less than two months before the wedding.

I found a white tablecloth we had lying around, our mirrors, green vases, milk glass, candles, succulents, a cheap bunch of red flowers from the supermarket, napkins, and some glassware to complete the look. The only thing I forgot was our table letters, but I was done taking pictures by the time I remembered them and I didn’t want to go through the hassle of finding them and retaking pictures.

With all of that gathered, this is what I came up with:

And if This Mock Up Doesn't Work... : wedding bloomington decor reception Img 830 IMG_830

Trying out different napkin styles—not sure which I like best

I tested out three different styles of milk glass to see what looks best.

As a side note, isn’t it a great idea that I decided to hire a florist? Yes, yes I think so.

These pictures also feature a vase that wasn’t captured in my post on our vases because after this it was placed in our fridge to make sure Pony kitty doesn’t eat the flowers (he loves eating flowers) and I forgot about it when I pictured all the other vases.

All in all, I am very happy with the direction of our table mock ups, but I feel like something is missing. Since we are having a buffet, I figured the plates would be set at the front of the buffet table, but now I’m worried we don’t have enough on the tables to really make an impact. The flowers will be much fuller, which will add some impact, but it’s hard for me to visualize whether it will be enough.

I tend to over think things though, so I’m leaving it to you bees to tell me what you think: would you change anything? Will our tables look bare and sad or am I worrying over nothing?

So pretty!

Maybe you could get some red, green, or silver charges for the place settings? Not sure how much extra they would be to rent. I know you can get some really cheap plastic ones from Michaels, but that might not be the direction you want to go.

I was worried about the same thing - our tables would look bare with all the plates at the start of the buffet table. We are doing a candy buffet so I decided I would put the bags for those at each place setting in place of plates and then have someone set-up the candy buffet while everyone is eating. That way it will be a surprise! And the tables will look more “full”.

Love the mock up, P!
I think a runner and chargers will make the table even more festive. We had a buffet too and the runners and silver chargers looked so lovely! ( and I promise to share these pics with you when I get my hoots back!)

Thanks alot for showing us your mirror trays… NOT…. Now I keep thinking about starting to collect those for my daughter’s wedding to replace the silver trays we already have. Just what I needed something else to collect. HAHA

I was worried about our tables looking empty, too.. I never asked if the plates would be set up at the buffet or what & come to find out, they put down place settings at each seat! So people already had plates & silverware when they sat down. Of course, they had extra plates at the buffet table, but having the place settings made up completed the look.

What I’m getting at is, ask the venue if they put plates at the buffet table or if they’ll do place settings. Request it if they don’t or get some non essential wedding guests to do it. You never know!

I was so looking forward to your mockup! I’m using the green vases and white tin can luminaries…and mirrors. I was afraid of the tables looking bare too, then decided to get brown craft paper and make placemats. (My wedding is backyard bbq)

I like your mockup! I think that once you have the table numbers and all the glasses and whatnot (at least, our glasses will already be in place - water goblets and champagne flutes), it’ll look fine :) I also like the idea of something in the place setting already - maybe a charger?

Looks great! I would suggest using an odd number of candles though. Odd numbers tend to be more aesthetically pleasing.

I’m liking the mock up Pony! I agree with the other suggestions of chargers to tables.

@Mrs. Ostrich: totally laughing at this typo!!!
I think the mock up looks great…I love the combo of colors and your collection is fantabulous. I think even if you don’t/can’t add chargers, having full flowers and the table numbers will add to it!

The mock up looks great! There will probably be silverware on the tables. And we had our caterer serve the salads on the tables at the beginning of the reception even though we had a buffet. It helped to seat everyone after the coctail hour.

They look great!! Very unique and personal. I agree with the posts before me that once everything else is on the table it wont look too empty. :)

We’re having a cocktail/stations-style reception so my florist pointed out that there would be far less on the tables with no plates, glassware, etc. and we needed to plan for that.

We’re using much more distinctive (patterned) linens than I would have otherwise chosen in order to “fill in” the tables and give them more interest. I like your mock-up, but do the tablecloths have to be stark white? Even a neutral color with subtle stripes or something will add interest, and may make you feel more comfortable with the lack of plates. Worked for me!

Hmmm, I think I agree with you that it needs a little something extra. Unfortunately I can’t think of what would help. The napkins that stand up are great and give the eye more to do as it looks at the table.

Even if you don’t have plates on the table, you will have glassware (we had water, wine AND champagne glasses so they really filled up the table, and the candles make them sparkle!), and silverware, and the napkins will add beautiful bursts of color!
