Mrs. Parasol's Picture
Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

I know, I know—I’ve been a bad bee! After telling you about our wedding-invitation disaster, and then talking about how Mr. Parasol and I went back to the drawing board and finally got the invitations we wanted, I made you all wait to see what these babies actually look like. I seriously didn’t mean to make you wait so long; I guess that’s what they call life.

But today’s the day: I’m finally going to show you our DIY invitations! And I’m so excited!

This is what happens when your invitation gets crushed in your purse. / Personal photo

Oh yes we did. Mr. Parasol and I totally invited Mickey and Minnie Mouse. We had to throw in at least one “for fun” invite, though now that we’ve sent this one, I’m totally thinking about sending another invitation to the San Francisco Giants. There’s always the chance that they will send back something awesome, like an autographed poster, which I would love. And Tim Lincecum may or may not be on my “freebie list.”

Anyway, shutting up now…

Hive, you know what a huge pain these invitations were. You know how much Mr. Parasol and I struggled with these and how much time and effort we put into making these look exactly the way we wanted. You know how long and difficult the process was and that this project was far from easy.

But, hive, it was all worth it in the end. Seriously, these invitations are perfect. They are exactly what I envisioned for our wedding invitations. They are fun, colorful, vibrant, and cute, and they totally embody us Parasols. I love the twine belly band, the pocket-fold envelope, our witty RSVP card, everything.

So far, our guests have been raving about our invitations. Mr. Parasol and I got a flood of text messages, emails, and Facebook comments when people got their invitations. One guest even said that they are “the best invitations ever.” And we’re not going to argue with that.

Now all that’s left is for us to sit back (well, not really) and let the RSVPs roll in. I absolutely love this part of the wedding-invitation process.

How did you feel once you finished your invitations and dropped them in the mail? Are you as excited as I am about getting lots of mail in the coming weeks?

Super pretty! I wanted our info cards and RSVPs to line up in the folder, but Mr. Cannon already printed them the same size, so I was like, whatever!

Love the bunting!! We used Enchanted Prairie Dog as our wedding font, too. Good choice!

Love the bunting! And it was soooooo smart to separate out the “yes” and “no” responses so as not to confuse people.

Thank you for all the kind words, ladies! I am so in love with our invites, and I’m glad I’m not delusional. :)

@Miss Cannon: Oh, I hear you, Cannon! There is a point where you just have to let it go.
@animalcrackers: Yay for Enchanted Prairie Dog! I love this font so much!
@xtatic1: Wow! That’s awesome! We definitely thought about Murrieta’s Well, but it was out of the budget for us. It’s such a gorgeous venue, I’m sure your wedding will be awesome!
@Mrs. Pain au Chocolat: Yeah, we wanted everything to be as clear as possible. It’s funny how difficult something seemingly so easy and straightforward can be!
