While I LOVE my wedding dress and wouldn’t change a thing, part of me can’t help but gravitate towards showy numbers. Case and point: While waiting for the seamstress to bring out my dress for my second fitting, a little something caught my eye. It was an after party dress by Jenny Packham dubbed the “make your momma faint dress”.

If the hemline wasn’t faint worthy the price certainly was. At $1300 (after a hefty discount) it was about 10 times what I’d consider spending on a party dress I’d probably never wear again.
Finding the right sassy little number has been infinitely harder than finding my shoes.
I reserved this disco ball of a dress from Rent the Runway but after seeing it on a few women of average height I’m afraid it’ll be too long.

I generally steer clear of ordering clothes online unless I’m really familiar with how the brand fits. A lot of the sample sites put on amazing sales but I hate getting stuck with store credit. I ordered the following dresses from Macy’s with the hopes of scoring an after party dress for next to nothing. If they didn’t work out I could just return them in store.
This first one was described as having a ‘fitted shape’ but it poof’d out given how it was gathered at the waist. The silver sequins also looked rather odd since the fabric was more ivory than white.

This next one fit on top, but the tulle and pleating made the bottom flair out much more than the sequined number. The bright white really wasn’t doing my skin tone any favors either.

I really had high hopes for this last one. It fit the best out of the bunch but I was really disappointed yet again with the color. While it looked ivory in the photo, it was more of a taupe/gold in person.

After exhausting several department stores I finally hit the jackpot. It was the right color and showed off my figure…but it was at the tippy top of my budget.

The saleswoman tried to tempt me with 40% off by opening a store credit card, but I just couldn’t do it. I returned to my office and with the help of the “internets” I found one in my size for about a FOURTH of the cost. That extra savings equals a very Happy Macarons and the option of becoming a two shoe bride.
Are you planning on changing into something else towards the end of the night?
