Well, hive…. I think it’s time. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been blogging on Weddingbee for a full year now, but seeing as how I’ve told my wedding story from beginning to end, I suppose it’s time for me to go enjoy married life and leave the Weddingbee main page for the planning and recapping bees. I’m actually really sad to go ’cause this has been such a fun and amazing experience from day one. I can’t thank you all enough for welcoming me into this incredible community!
When I first contemplated applying to blog on Weddingbee, I simply thought it would be fun. I thought that my modern art gallery ceremony and lounge-y reception would be a welcome addition to the hive. I thought that with my event planning background, I might be able to help other brides as I posted about my own wedding planning journey. And to be perfectly honest, I thought the hive needed a splash of 30-something color. But all of those things were what I was going to bring to the hive. I never once thought about what Weddingbee was going to do for me and that’s because, at the time, I had absolutely no clue that Weddingbee would have such a substantial impact on my life. OK…I realize that sounds overly dramatic, but stick with me here.
Through this journey, I’ve learned that sometimes the advice of a stranger is just as good, if not better (and sometimes more honest) than advice from a close friend.
I’ve learned that internet friends can actually become real friends. I’ve learned that planning personal events is way more fun than planning stuffy, corporate affairs. And I’ve learned that I love weddings. Plain and simple. I’ve been in a million of them and I’ve been to a million of them, but I didn’t realize how amazing weddings truly are until I planned my own. I know there are many people who are so happy when the whole planning process is over and done with, but I truly loved the entire thing.
So what’s next for the Hippos? Well, I mentioned here that we decided shortly after the wedding to move back to Dallas, and we’ve been settling in and baking in the scorching Texas heat for a little over a month now (after much drama with the moving company, but that’s a whole drama-filled story of its own). We are adjusting to life without 24-hour food delivery, but loving the fact that we now have central A/C and decent closet space. With my newfound obsession with weddings and my event planning background, I’ve launched my own wedding and event planning company in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and I’ve been keeping incredibly busy attending networking events with local wedding vendors and finishing up a training course with the Association of Bridal Consultants. I’m loving every minute of it!
Although I’m sad to go, I will definitely be popping back in from time to time to say hello. We’re still waiting on our wedding video (a friendor helped us out with it for super cheap, so I’m totally fine with not having it yet), so I will make sure to come back and show it to ya’ll once I have it. And, I’ve been debating a post-wedding chop since our March wedding, so if I ever go through with it (how long post-wedding can it still be considered a PWC?), I will definitely come back to post some pics. Until then, you can visit me over at my blog, where you’ll find some miscellaneous wedding inspiration mixed in with some random musings about my life in Dallas as an event planner and newlywed. Please stop by! I’ve gotten so used to your comments on Weddingbee that I just might go into withdrawals!
Thank you so much for everything, hive. I miss you already!
XOXO,
Hippo (a.k.a. Kimberly)
