About Mrs. Candy Apple

Something Blue. And Polished.

August 12th, 2011 @ 3:57 pm by Mrs. Candy Apple

I know that I owe you another post on our fabulous invitations, but I wanted to take a time out for a sec. As we creep closer and closer to W-Day, I am starting to think about little details that have slipped my mind up to this point. Such as, you know, my “something blue.” Little things like that, which aren’t really important (to me, at least) in the grand scheme of things, but would still be a nice touch. Since I’m not wearing a garter, I was thinking of other ways to work in the color blue. Think think think. And then, in my post on W-Day nail polish, it hit me over the head when someone made a suggestion in the comments—toenails! Polish! Blue toenail polish!

Duh. It looks awesome in pictures and, because it would be on toenails that are covered by my big ol’ dress, they wouldn’t be easily visible (and thus look out of place against our palette).

Doesn’t it look fab?! I love it. And because I like sharing, I wanted to share some of my favorite blue polishes for your toes (or fingers!), just in case you’re still looking for your “something blue.”

Bold Blues

Butter London’s “Royal Navy” is a gorgeous, silky navy. This color would look SO fab on toes - I am feeling a strong urge to go out and buy it immediately. I don’t think I want to go this dark, even on my toenails, for the wedding, but this is a great staple color to have on-hand. I love, love, love it. Classic, chic, and modern.

Essie’s “Mezmerised” is super bold, fun, and a very straightforward blue. I have this one, and it is just beautiful. I think I want something a bit softer for the wedding, but if you are looking for a strong, jewel-tone blue, this is your polish.

A bit lighter and more purple-y than “Mezmerised,” Deborah Lippmann’s “I Know What Boys Like” is another bolder blue. I can imagine this one on sandaled feet with a shorter, cream or ivory wedding dress, perhaps on the beach. Although it’s a bold blue, it’s slightly softer than some of the darker blues I have found.

Butter London’s “Artful Dodger” is lighter than the two above colors, but it is still a bold, turquoise-y blue. Like a clear summer sky. This one is nice if you want to go bright and bold, but not too deep of a blue.

Softer Blues

I still love Chanel’s “Riva.” Such a pretty, shimmery blue. Light. Airy. Great for a tropical beach wedding. If only I could get my hands (I mean, toes) on a bottle.

Essie’s “Sweet Talker” is a really feminine, soft, ethereal blue. This one is definitely a top contender for me right now; I love how light it looks, and I bet it would look great on toenails.

Deborah Lippman’s “Glitter in the Air” is a super-subtle, glittery blue. This is such a fun color, and would be perfect for toes in a summertime wedding. I don’t think you would need a sheer coat under it, either, since it has the milky-blue polish in there. Plus, it would complement my glittery shoes!

Unfortunately, it is sold out on DL’s site, so you would need to scrounge around to find it, I imagine. This one is my front-runner currently - if only it weren’t sold out!

Other

Another glitter polish (can you tell that I’m diggin’ the glitter right now??) - Deborah Lippman’s “Lady Sings the Blues” is seriously kick-butt. You could layer this over white to make the glitter pop, or just swipe it on with a sheer base-coat.

Okay, I honestly can’t stop with the glitter. It’s a problem. But it’s just so dang pretty! And fun! And celebratory! Perfect for weddings, don’t you think? Everyone wants twinkle-toes on their wedding day.

Did you wear a blue toe(or finger)nail polish as your “something blue”? Any other suggestions for good blue polishes?

Essie has a new blue called “Borrowed and Blue” it’s like a pastel blue but not as “dusty”, it’s got a little bit of pop to it.

Oh my gosh, LOVE that Butter London “Royal Navy”! I’ve been thinking about doing blue toes - they won’t show at all, though, so I don’t know if I want that to be my something blue…

I LOVE the first dark blue one! I wore bright blue nail polish on my toes and continued to repaint the blue for about 10 months of marriage! I loved having that little blue on my feet

You are really doing your best to restart my nail polish addiction! I too, love the Chanel polish. Drats, huh! Would For Audrey by China Glaze work?

Perusing the Sephora site, I found Slushie (opaque turq blue) and Skinny Jeans (opaque metallic aqua) both by OPI.

Where’s Hippo?? I found one called “Hippo to be Square” (opaque lilac)

Darn you, CA! I am now re-obsessed.

I wore OPI “Sedona Seduction” (a metallic light blue) on my toes for my wedding a few weeks ago as my something blue. I love “Sweet Talker” too!

I’d advise you to google for pictures of Glitter in the Air — it’s really sheer by itself, and doesn’t really show blue at all. Lovely over a base coat, though! :) Lady Sings the Blues, on the other hand, is absolutely opaque and gorgeous on its own!

Ohhh, I love the Royal Navy and the Sweet Talker! So pretty! I love wearing dark navy nail polish in the fall/winter–it’s been my favorite ever since I saw Emily Blunt wearing it in The Devil Wears Prada.

I love Glitter in the Air! I think it might need maybe one coat of a pale blue basecoat first though. There were a lot of them in the beauty store near me, need me to send you one?

I think I need Artful Dodger, love that colour!

My favorite blue polish is OPI Russian Navy. Its a little too dark for a bride though.

I did dark blue polish on my toes for my something blue! I loved it, and even my skeptical mother said it looked good.

Right now I have “Something Borrowed” (I think?) by Essie on my toes, a very light blue that could also work for wedding day!

I had blue toes as well and loved them although few people saw them they made me smile. I had closed toed shoes so I let my 14 year old sister- in- law chose the color and it was bright, but I love it. I actually painted them the color again and smiled because they reminded me of the day ( I do not remember the brand but it was called blew me away).

I bet my mother would freak out if I talked about painting my nails blue for my wedding. But then again I’m wearing a tea-length dress and peep toe pumps. But still… I’ll just live vicariously through you…
