Flouncy Frock Time

August 15th, 2011 @ 1:02 pm by Miss Snapdragon

The Snapdragon wedding planning journey has been rather hilarious. We have been flying by the seat of our pants, taking quite a few gambles, and hoping for the best. I call it “The Tides of Adventure” - it makes life more exciting.

Seeing as Bossyboots and I have engagement photos this weekend, I decided I should probably go shopping. Here in Chicago, you aren’t allowed to walk around nekkid. Nearly nekkid—yes. Totally nekkid—no. Too bad.

We’re taking shots around downtown Chicago, and we’re so excited! I really wanted to wear a flouncy skirt and crazy pumps, so…. that’s what I’m doing. Funny how that happens! I already own unwalkably sky-high platform pumps, so I just needed the rest of the ensemble—yes, I realize that’s mostly everything. Pumps and an engagement ring, that’s what I had to work with here.

I turned to a girl’s best flouncy friend: Anthropologie! And wouldn’t you know it, they had exactly what I wanted: the Noon and Night dress. What should have been a ten-hour strenuous shopping day lasted 60 minutes. Done and done. BAM.

Add an iron, shower and a Level 10 spray tan to the photos above. I’m a natural white balance sheet. It’s tough to see here, but the dress has a bit of a pattern to it. Clearly, a statement necklace was needed…

I’m a Scrooge, so this shopping excursion was painful in the bargain department. However, I hate shopping even more than I hate spending money, so…there you go. I throw money at things that I want to end [as soon as possible].

Bossyboots is going shopping for his outfit tomorrow (eek! cutting it close) but I’m really looking forward to our photo session. We’ve never had professional photos taken, and I’m so excited to have one of the world’s greatest cities as the backdrop!

Did you have engagement photos taken? What are your best model-ready tips?

Great find, Snappy! My only tips are to try to relax and have fun. Oh… and I definitely support making sure arms aren’t ever pressed against your body. I learned that years ago and really try hard to lift my elbows out a bit in every photo so my arms don’t look squished, and thus bigger. Mrs. Sewing talked about it here too: http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/02/08/normalizing-the-differences/

We live in Chicago, and had our engagement photos taken downtown as well! Buckingham fountain, along the lake, and out past the planetarium. Seriously, you’ll get some amazing “looks like you are in a meadow, but oh hey, there’s downtown!” shots :)

Oh, I’m jealous! I just tried that exact dress on two hours ago (there’s an Anthro store near my office…dangerous), and it looked AWFUL on me! But it looks so cute on you!

It must be a Chicago thing to wear a flouncy skirt & “unwalkably sky-high platform pumps” to your engagement photo shoot. I can’t wait to see what locations you chose to shoot at!

BTW, check your PM!

That dress looks great on you Snappy! I’ve been eyeing it on the Anthro website. I’m not sure if I’ll wait for sale or look to pick it up in Vegas next month (since dresses are typically a couple of bucks cheaper in the US than in Canada). It will look great with a cardi, tights and boots in the fall! I’m sure it will look great in your engagement pictures too.

Can you tell I’m a bit of an Anthroholic? You could play “Guess which Anthro dress Gazelle is wearing” in all our honeymoon pictures.
