Mama Teaspoon Gets Dressed

August 15th, 2011 @ 2:41 pm by Mrs. Teaspoon

So, we have had a bit of drama finding my Mama Teaspoon a dress. She started the search about a week after I had bought my dress, as apparently my dress really sets the mood of the whole occassion in conjunction with the venue and the church! That really makes sense to me, actually, as originally I was thinking of an apple green for the bridesmaids’ dresses; however, after I chose my dress I knew that navy was a much more suitable colour. So, what did Mum go with? Also navy…strike one.

With the first “bridezilla” comment floating around, I was keen to help Mum to find a suitable dress. However, off she went shopping on her own again. I received a few picture text messages of black or grandma dresses, or my personal favourite—”too Julia Gillard” (for those outside Australia, info here):

Then she found what she thought was perfect. I received no pictures—nothing. Until I got this, which clearly is not in the department store:

A fitted dress, a nice jacket for our early spring wedding, and it all looks nice on Mama Teaspoon. One small problem—this is the same colour as the mother of the groom and also the groomsmen are wearing. All a bit matchy-matchy.

So, back to the drawing board for lucky number three! We awoke early last Saturday morning, pumped it up with our personal trainer in the garage while looking out at the pouring rain, and then headed over to Chatswood Chase and, wouldn’t you know it, everything was either navy or silver? Apparently winter fashion is blue and grey? So, the only dress that Mama tried on happened to be in a very warm colour—tangerine! Just to be clear, it’s not orange (apparently)—it is tangerine! It is a lovely Carla Zampatti number, which will be wonderful!

Happy Mummy glad shopping is over after only trying on one dress!!

I think I actually prefer it without the jacket, but it could just be the way she is standing? The good thing is, even though everyone says this, she could actually wear this again—not as a complete ensemble, necessarily, but definitely the dress on its own and the jacket with jeans and a nice cami!

Did I ever think my mum would be wearing orange TANGERINE to my wedding? I am going to go with no, but goodness it looks lovely!

The dress looks lovely! Very ‘Roland Mouret’ - your mom’s figure looks amazing!!! Personally, I prefer it without the jacket - perhaps she could find a little shrug or bolero to go with it instead? Although, with the sleeves, I think it’s beautiful on it’s own!
Fantastic dress!

This dress is so pretty on your mum! And the color is just so happy, perfect for a mother of the bride dress :)

Oh it’s so pretty!! And def no jacket. I think the jacket makes it dowdy….

My mom had a hard time finding a dress. She’s 5′2 and size 16- all in her stomach. she finally found One in a bridal store- it’s bronze and PUFFY, as in puffier than my fit and flare dress. And very sparkly. But you know what- she feels great in it and look fantastic- so who am I to say anything to the contrary. She’s the MOB, she’s allowed to sparkle too :)

I love her dress! My bridesmaid are wearing orange and my Mom also wants to wear orange.. which is fine, but I’d rather it not be the same shade of orange. Your Mom’s dress color looks like it would be a perfect color compromise! Thanks for sharing!

She looks great in that dress! And I also love the color of the other dress she tried on so I can’t wait to see the groomsmen and mother of the groom in that color later.

Love the dress, I’m with Kate though and prefer it with out the jacket. The Jacket makes it look less dressy and more of an “I’m walking to the cafe to get a coffee.” LOVE the color!

@bluestar: @Margarita: @Kate: Definitely agree, the jacket is just to keep her protected in the brisk September weather thats possible here in Sydney. I have suggested that she remove the jacket for photos and in the church.

@JuneBride2012: The neckline is perfect for her i think!

@Jane: welcome to WB! If it wasnt Julia’s signature white jacket, it would have looked great!

I love that color. I’d give anything to get Momma Kettle in any shade of orange, but she’ll probably end up in taupe.

I note that the MOG bought her dress before the MOB. Is the custom around that different in Australia?
