Greetings everyone! This week, we’re planning a honeymoon for the wonderful Miss Cannon. Miss Cannon is planning a boisterous shindig full of color, bbq, and beer! She’s a busy lady who never has a dull moment between work, graduate school, wedding planning, and her adorable daughter. It sounds like she could really use some R&R. Here’s how I envision the Cannons spending a few days in the historic city of Philadelphia on a $2,000 budget.

Philadelphia - What To Do
Since the Cannons are beer lovers (and who isn’t), a great way to get to know the city and kick off the honeymoon celebration would be a tour of Philadelphia’s many beer breweries. After all, Philadelphia was named of the best cities for beer in the world by Frommers. The Cannons could pick up a few tips on brewing by taking a tour of the Philadelphia Brewing Company.

From there, they could head to Yards Brewing Company and enjoy a selection of beers in their tasting room. Finally, they could end the day by enjoying some local brews and live music at Johnny Brendas.

No visit to Philadelphia is complete without the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

Though some may say that a visit to a prison should not be a couple’s first stop after getting married, Mr. Cannon may find the Eastern State Penitentiary a fascinating stop (my husband loves visiting Alcatraz). It once housed Al Capone and includes an audio tour narrated by Steve Buscemi.

The Cannons love the outdoors so they may want to take a couple days exploring Philadelphia’s hiking trails. Wissahickon Valley Trail and Fairmount Park offer natural preserves away from the city bustle but still in the Philadelphia area. If they’re willing to venture farther away from Philadelphia, the White Clay Creek Preserve is a beautiful area to get away.

Philadelphia - Where to Stay
Given Miss Cannon’s love of color in her decor, I thought this cozy apartment in downtown Philly might be a good match:

There’s also this lovely apartment with armchairs that are perfect for evening conversation, and a hammock for kicking back some local beers.

They could also get away from the city bustle and live just a few steps from the ocean in this beach condo or in this secluded garden getaway.

Philadelphia - Where to Eat
As much as Philadelphia is about Ben Franklin and the Constitution, it’s just as much about cheesesteak hoagies, soft pretzels, and soda pop. The most popular place to get a cheesesteak hoagie (with cheese whiz) is Pat’s King of Steaks. If you want to pass on the cheese whiz try out this Philadelphia institution: John’s Roast Pork.

The pretzels at Philly Soft Pretzel Factory are so good they demand you eat them 25 at a time. Don’t forget the mustard!

Continuing on the delectable meat theme, I’m sure the Cannons would love to satisfy their BBQ fix at Devil’s Alley or Tommy Gunn’s American BBQ.

The Cannons may also want to satisfy the sweet side of their palette by heading to Capogiro Gelato and sampling from their daily changing flavor menu. They could also try some refreshing water ice (Philadelphian speak for Italian ice) at Rita’s Water Ice.

Philadelphia - Honeymoon Budget Breakdown
We came in with plenty of room to spare under the Cannons’ $2,000 budget. That’s ok though because I know Miss Cannon likes a little wiggle room. I also double checked my math since Miss Cannon is an accountant and I want to pass her audit =).
$2,000 Total
I hope the Cannons have a fantastic time on their honeymoon and this post helps get them going in the right direction. So what do you think? Cheeze whiz or no cheese whiz on your hoagie?
