A Costco Kind of Love

August 18th, 2011 @ 4:11 pm by Mrs. Sunhat

Back in July, Mr. Ballcap and I made a trip to Costco to start stocking up on things for our annual 4th of July party. This was our second Independence Day in our home and because we have a pool, it only makes sense for us to open our home to our friends and family to have a kick-ass good time.

Now as a couple, we aren’t the overly lovey-dovey types who display grandiose gestures of romanticism. The occasional bunch of flowers or a card are sweet touches, but to me it is more of the little, unexpected, unplanned moments that really knock my socks off.

While strolling down the refrigerated aisles at Costco looking for hot dogs, he started talking about a recent conversation with his dad. They were discussing the wedding and our relationship overall and he told his dad “She’s my best friend. She’s my best bud.”

Now I know a lot of people say that their significant other is their BFF, but honestly, I’ve never really thought too much about it.

My girlfriends are what come to mind when discussing best friends. But as I sit here writing this now, knowing that he feels that way about me and isn’t afraid to say it out loud to others, well, it makes me feel amazing! Hearing him say it really touched me in a surprising way and told my heart that we are truly meant to be (not that I had doubted it!). Just those few words confirmed for me that no matter if we’ve been bickering or are upset, at the end of the day, he is my best bud and he is the first person I want to turn to for everything.

The hot dog aisle at Costco will never feel the same again! Have you had a moment in an unexpected, seemingly ordinary place? Tell me about it!

Awwwww, I feel that way about Mr. FC too. I just want to tell him first about everything! Even if it’s TMI and he doesn’t want to know. :)

So sweet! Apparently it’s controversial to say you SO is your best friend. I think it’s definitely safe to say he’s my best GUY friend. But he might be my best friend, too. And I’m totally cool with that!

Awww, Mr. Ballcap sounds like my kind of guy! Early on in our relationship, I randomly asked Mr. P what he wanted in a girlfriend, and he said, “I think a girlfriend is your best friend who you hold hands with.” It blew me away, and Mr. P still stands by that definition of a significant other today!

That is so sweet! What an adorable story. I love that Mr. Ticket is my best friend, he’s the first person I tell everything too…like Miss Funnel Cake said even if he doesn’t want to know haha.

Awww yay! That makes me so happy! And I totally agree - sometimes the little unexpected things are the best. The other day my fiance was talking about how Chase discontinued their debit rewards points (boooooo Chase!), and then he said “Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, I used my last points to get you a Starbucks card. It should be here soon hopefully.” And you know what? I teared up a little bit. It sounds so silly, but that was just such a sweet and thoughtful thing for him to do, especially considering he just started grad school and his budget is tight, and he must have spent so much money on my e-ring not too long ago. There are so many things he could have gotten for himself, but he wanted to give me a Starbucks card :) I love him.

Aw, what a sweet story! Mr. P is definitely the first person I want to share things with, good or bad. I never thought my SO would be my best friend, but with Mr. P it makes sense.

I’m like you when I hear BFF I think of my girls so I call my sweetie my 1st friend. Not that I don’t have other friends but he is the person I call, talk to, want a reaction from 1st.

I am for sure the less demonstrative person but one day we were sitting in a park by the Hudson watching the day roll by and I leaned over kissed his cheek and told him he is the best thing I never knew I needed. He blushed and was speechless and that park bench at that moment was a great place to be.

For me it was definitely the first time Mr. Kettle told me he had a concrete date in mind for when we’d be married. He said it so nonchalantly that it really caught me off guard. It ended up being the whole basis for our pick for our wedding date.
