Mrs. Hyena's Picture
Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TX Age and Occupation: 23, Marketing Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad Student Engagement Date: January 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Downtown 202 About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
About Mrs. Hyena

I know budgeting can be a touchy subject, but I always found posts crunching the numbers to be useful. It can be difficult to figure out what percentage of your budget should be put toward each thing, and to that, I say choose your priorities. Then, put the major money toward those priorities. Nothing wrong with pretty things, but if you’ve never cared about flowers before, chances are you’re not going to feel good dropping eleventy hundred dollars on them now.

We were very thankful that the bulk of our wedding costs were covered by our parents. There were a few expenses here and there that we ate, but our families were very generous and for that we are extremely grateful.

thanks for the budget breakdown. You guys did a phenomenal job! I really appreciate it when the bees let us in on all the pennies. Were you able to come in on budget? I don’t remember what your original budget was.

@tea: Our budget was $15,000 including the honeymoon. We did go a little over — the honeymoon was not included in this budget breakdown.

This was really interesting to me because I always wonder how much the weddings I attend cost. That grooms cake was well worth the cost though :). It could have cost a bit less if you returned all the extra wine too =P.

We will see how on budget we stay.

@Mrs. Hyena: Oh, this is soooo helpful!!! We’re working on a $12,000 budget in Austin, and your numbers have been just about what I’ve seen, so I truly appreciate your breakdown! And what an amazingly beautiful wedding you had for the price. :-) Thanks so much for all your posts. I’ve loved following your journey!!!

@bRooklynRocks: Thank you! It’s okay, immediately after the wedding, I could have cared less what our budget worked out to. I needed to step back for a couple months first. :)

@MaiFuture: @Mrs. Hyena: Amazingly good left-over wine! :D

Just imagine how much money you saved on flowers alone! I’m still impressed by how amazing they came out, and I’m in love with the pretty cakes.
