Dancing Shoes

August 18th, 2011 @ 5:39 pm by Mrs. Pony

I love the heels I bought for our wedding, but I am under no illusion that I will be able to wear those suckers all night. I plan to dance, dance, dance at our reception and in order to do so, I will need to have something comfortable to slip into. I assumed that I would steal a pair early from our flip flop basket for my personal use and be done with it:

Our flip flop basket! (that I haven’t talked about before, so here are some more pictures)

I bought ours at the annual $1 flip flop day from Old Navy in May and stuck them in a wire basket Papa Pony had laying around.

They’re bound together with green rubber bands and I tied the sizes on with some twine.

At BM What’s Her Face’s wedding in July, the bridesmaids were gifted with a similar pretty pair of purple flip flops that I opted to wear at the reception. I loved having them to change into at the reception since my heels were ridiculously uncomfortable, but I quickly realized how difficult they were to dance in. I couldn’t slide and glide like I am used to. My moves were seriously impaired, which cannot happen at our wedding.

So, I started shopping for some reception flats that I could really dance in all night long. Naturally, I wanted to turn to the internet, but it is really difficult to know whether shoes will be able to move on the dance floor over the internet. I found several pairs that I liked in looks, but couldn’t commit not knowing whether the soles were what I wanted. I also found several pairs that I knew would be perfect for the dance floor because of their leather soles, but were more money than I really wanted to spend on reception shoes.

When shopping in Chicago a few weeks back, I came across a brand of shoes that I never heard of before that had the perfect sole and were super cute. Since they didn’t have my size at the store, I came home and ordered them online (and on super sale, score!).

I love that the name is written in green!

I’ve been breaking them in (by wearing them constantly) for the last two weeks and I know I made the perfect decision for dancing the night away at our reception!

Are you wearing flats for your reception? Was it important to you to be able to move on the dance floor with ease?

I wanted to do a flip flop basket so badly! But I missed the annual Old Navy sale and spending $2.50 per pair kind of pains me. I’m secretly hoping to stumble into a sale elsewhere before the wedding. I love your red striped shoes.

I made the call– silver Tory Burch flats under the dress AND at the reception! No heels for this bride– but big time alterations to the dress! I’ve been wearing them to my office to break them in, and it feels wrong, somehow…

I’m wearing flats the whole night because our ceremony is outside at a garden. I’m thinking Tory Burch or Jack Rogers.

I found ones at Michaels craft store for $1 about 3 weeks ago!!! Now is your time to get them onsale!! Old Navy limits your purchase to 5 pairs most times. You can also use coupons (but most times it is just off a single item)…you can get lucky and find coupons that discounts off an entire purchase. RIght now they havea 40% off single item.

Yay for flip flop baskets and yay for flats! I wanted to be comfortable so I changed shoes for the reception.

I think that my Toms should be comfy enough to live in, much less dance in. I will still have a back up pair of flip flops if need be. I absolutely love your flats, they are super cute! The stripes are so sweet! And I love that all of your colors are there!

Your shoes are very cute!! I will be wearing chuck taylors (white) with royal blue ribbon laces (color of my wedding) at my reception. The guys will be wearing black ones the entire time.

I love Blowfish! I had some grey ankle booties that I literally wore out last winter by them. They were the comfiest things ever.

My shoes have 4 inch heels, but I danced in them for 5 hours for my birthday party last year, so I’m pretty confident I can do it again for my wedding. I’m more of a heels gal anyway, comfortable heels that is.

Your wedding is a formal event, the most important day of your life. Why in the world would you wear flip-flops or sneakers for a single moment of it? I will never understand this trend. Maybe it’s because I’m a New Yorker or something.
