Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

I vividly remember walking up to our venue. We were late and my heart and feet were moving quickly. I planned to run in, and straight upstairs to the bridal suite, but there was a surprise waiting behind those big Victorian-style doors.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” I screamed! Literally, I screamed! Mr. Brooch says he heard me from all the way out in the garden; he says that is when he knew that I must have seen the surprise chiavari chairs.

Still quickly walking through the Manor, I searched for Pavaune, our planner, and when my eyes met up with hers, I yelled, “What are those doing here?” She grinned.

I. could. not. believe. it.

I mean, do you remember the agony? The whining?

Well, if not, you can easily revisit my many expressions of grief that began back in September of 2010 here, and came back up in late December here, and still here—in January—I could not let go.

In the weeks and days leading up to the wedding, I would talk about how disappointed I was that we weren’t going to have these chairs. My maid of honor and bridesmaids knew, my mom knew, and I even told our photographer—the day before the wedding—when I met her for the first time in person!

Meredith, do you remember me sulking about this?

Well, my groom did a very special thing and apparently, somewhere amidst my whining, he decided to secretly call up our planner and finagle a way to fit the chiavari chairs in the budget. This is love, y’all. <3

Seeing those chairs lined up alongside the walls of our venue is an image itched in my mind forever. It’s a memory I hold dear to my heart, and hello! I was obviously marrying the right man; a man that really must love me… It was the surprise of a lifetime!

Oh, and just as I suspected, it really did complete the look of our reception! Win!

My heart seriously melts when I think back on it.

Did you groom surprise you on your wedding day? How?

Yay! I’ve been waiting for this recap ever since you told us about your surprise! How wonderful, both the ways the chairs look in your venue and the lengths Mr. B went to to make this happen for you.

freaking fantastic! the room looks absolutely gorgeous. what a nice hubby you’ve got there.

i’m trying not to turn into a crazy nutso bride, but chairs are something i’m extremely picky about! luckily my venue has gorgeous banquet chairs (and there is such a thing! amazing!) :)

I’ve never seen then w/ a natural finish before. So elegant! I’m not sure I would have been receptive to a major decorating surprise on my wedding day, LOL. Good thing your DH knew JUST what you wanted (and still worked with your scheme after you thought you wouldn’t have it.)

That is so sweet of your fiance-that he knew you well enough to know what you really wanted, and cared enough to do something about it. :) And of course you don’t have to feel guilty about the cost, because the decision wasn’t up to you, lol-best of both worlds!
