Share Your Skills

Macs and I are a bit of control freaks. We limit what you can and can’t find out about us on the internet. Our Facebook accounts are on lock down, we don’t “check in” and you won’t find us on foursquare. That might make us seem behind the times, but if we wanted to share every aspect of our wedding day as it was happening we would stream it online.

I know we’re not alone in this though process as several bees have expressed similar concerns. It’s not that I don’t want our guests to snap away, I’d just like to try and mitigate the amount of exposure. How do I expect to achieve this? With the increasingly popular photo cards.

I’m hoping by granting our guests access to Flickr they can quell their need for sharing in a controlled environment.

Where do you stand on guests sharing photos after the wedding? Are you anxiously awaiting their status updates and if not, are you taking any steps to control it?

We used cards like these, and we’ve already had 5 or 6 people upload. It totally helps to look at ANY photos when you’re still waiting for professional ones!

just wanted to share … but BULKR (http://clipyourphotos.com/bulkr) is currently the BEST way to mass download all of those photos later on! :)

I’m definitely wanting to do something like this, but I know they will all end up on facebook anyway. Interested to hear your experiences!

I love this idea and totally plan on it, but I’m debating logistics. Are you putting these at each place setting? Including them in favors? Using them in thank you cards? I’m worried if we have them at the place setting, people will just leave them behind.

@Miss Ladyfingers: We’re going to put them at each place setting and then send some out with our thank you notes as well.
@Mrs. Lemon: Thanks for the advice! I’ve bookmarked it and I’m sure it’ll come in handy.

We used something similar to this at our wedding. Putting them on place settings is a smart idea cause not a lot of our cards got taken. I like this option because it allows you to upload full resolution pictures, whereas even if people end up putting them on facebook, you can only look at them but not really do much after that.

This is a great idea! Mostly just so the photos can all be in one spot. I don’t mind people posting our wedding pics. I do like to keep my facebook private, but I expect my friends will be mobile uploading and status updating. I don’t mind since only my “friends” can see what goes up. And, as the years go by I like to whither away who those facebook friends are.

We tried this, and only one person (out of about 100 guests) uploaded their photos to our site. The rest of the guests still posted on Facebook, which wasn’t a big deal to us either.

We offered a Shutterfly share account but few guests uploaded to it. Instead they shared albums with me on Facebook (the younger folks) or other photo share sites, which I put onto the share site for all to see. Now two months after the wedding, they’re beginning to use the site for photo purchases.

sorry to say, but…you are dreaming. people will always upload on facebook before uploading onto your website that they have to fish the card out for (if they even kept one/can find it). that is kindof like hoping that, even though you self addressed and stamped an envelope for your rsvp, that everyone will be considerate and respond. good luck!

I think the success or failure of photosharing cards depends on the crowd. I just sent the cards out with our thank you cards because I didn’t want little white cards all over my black linens.

We didn’t have anyone upload to our share site, but my guess is no one really brought a camera. We only had a couple camera phone shots posted on FB, that were posted real-time, so that was actually fun to see people comments on the next day. My sister did post her good pics in a FB album (and they were mostly of my niece), which I was fine with.

Guest photos are just one of those issues I think you have to just throw out to the universe and hope it ends up the way you want. You can’t control it, so don’t make yourself crazy!

I wonder if this will work… It’s kinda funny my mom, grandmom and grandfather hate people putting pictures of them on fb…they would never get one and yet there are about 50 pics of them on friends and family pages
