I Feel So Pretty!

August 18th, 2011 @ 10:19 am by Mrs. Teaspoon

Can you guess what happened during the week? Yes, I had my hair and makeup trial. Why else would I feel so pretty? I was armed with inspiration pictures coming out of my wazoo, and I knew what I wanted. Explaining that to my hair and makeup artists was what I thought was going to be the difficult part! It turns out they are both very professional and can interpret my vague requests, so it was all incredibly easy!

First, a before photo, after a long day at work.

I was actually still on a teleconference when I arrived at my parents’ house for the trial. Not lettting that faze  me, we got started with the hair, from my inspiration here.

We first tired the insertable hair sponge to give my thin hair some much-needed help. Whilst I liked it, it did make my head look extremely large. Or at least I thought it did, but in hindsight, it’s only a little bulge at the back above the bun.

After she had done this, she asked if I wanted to keep the sponge until the wedding day or have her take it out and bring it with her, I went with the least responsibility for me, and had her whip that thing out of there. Then I kind of liked it without the sponge. It looked a lot more like my hair rather than a lot of extra hair. See how vague I can be? How they understood me, I have no idea.

I liked it both ways, so it was a successful trial, right? Except looking back over the photos afterwards, I have realised that I want the whole ’do to be a lot smoother. After talking to my hair person it definitely will be. Phew. Hair, sorted.

Once hair was sorted, it was across the table to get my makeup done by the lovely Mandy from Makeup by Mandy. I found her through my bridesmaid and another close girlfriend from school who are both using her for their weddings. I can definitely see why—she is amazeballs! She used spray-on foundation and false eyelashes to create a beautiful, natural look that I absolutely loved!

On went the fake eyelashes; look at the concentration on my face! I wasn’t even doing anything.

Hair and makeup—check.

Do you have thin hair? Have you tried hair sponges or any other volume boosters? What did you think?

What is a hair sponge? Never heard of it. I have fine, bone straight hair so I can use any tips on making it fuller for my wedding ‘do!

My hair is very thin and fine as well and I really wanted a ton of volume for my wedding hairstyle! It actually came out looking very much like yours - good taste:)! What we used, I actually brought with me because I use it for poofing all the time. It’s basically a starchy powder that really holds teasing. I use “Not Your Mothers Girl Power” brand. You just dash it on each section of hair at the root and then tease it with a backcomb. Then using a bristle brush you smooth it over on top. This worked really well and I didn’t need a sponge. You can also make it however big you want since it’s totally up to how much you tease it.

I am a big fan of the sock bun for an everyday look. It definitely gives me one big voluminous bun that there is no way my thin hair can do on its own.

I like your hair both ways and your make up looks great!
