US Meets UK: In-Between

August 18th, 2011 @ 12:14 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

After the ceremony we greeted all the people who came to share in our special day

US Meets UK: In-Between : wedding baltimore pictures pro pics recap 082809 021 082809_02

took photos as a newly married couple

and grabbed a few formal photos while our friends and family grabbed cocktails and the usual fare. At least, I think they did—I was outside praying that the rain would stay to an infrequent drizzle.

Then we were announced to La Grange by ZZ Top. We saw a band play this on our first date in Austin and chose it to remind us of our beginnings as a couple. Later, I learned the song is about a whorehouse. Cool. It was our plan that after being announced we’d cut the cake to save people from going between the house and the tent. Except, we walked past the cake to our seats, and had to turn around! Whoopsies!

I love, love, LOVED our cake buffet, our bakery and the delicious cake they gave us on our anniversary. Our cake was originally supposed to just have a single (non edible) flower on top—instead they did an arrangement that I was completely in love with.

It was SUCH a nice surprise and I smile every time I think of our cake. I can’t recommend them enough!

We loved all the cakes on our buffet. I’m pretty sure Mr.D and I tried to eat a bit of each flavor…

US Meets UK: In-Between : wedding baltimore pictures pro pics recap 082809 051 082809_05

We cut into our two tier cake (pretty sure I’m thinking “oooo…CAKE!”)

and I made the ugly cake face that one makes when trying to avoid being covered in cake while wearing a white dress. Neither of us wanted to do the cake smush, but I can see how it might be tempting after the wedding planning process. I kid, I kid!

I should have been Ms. Python with my giant retractable jaw. Up next? Dinner and toasts, of course!

Did you/will you make ugly cake face? Will you smush or no smush?

NO smush–after all the hours put into being the most beautiful me, there’s no way a piece of cake will ruin that ….. And…..lets be honest here, I simply can’t imagine wasting any delicious cake that way!!

We had planned NOT to do a cake smush and I gingerly placed my husbands piece in his mouth. He then fell to the crowd’s peer pressure and forcefully shoved my piece in (only getting a little around my mouth and not all over my face luckily). But with that, I noticed there was a bit of the cake left over on the plate, quickly scooped it up and smeared it into his face as best I could. I don’t think the crowd expected any of that and and was pretty surprised about how things went down. Additionally, I didn’t turn out to be nearly as upset about having cake on me as I thought I would…looking back I wouldn’t have done it any differently if I had the chance.

Wow, your cake was gorgeous - I love the shape and color of the fondant (?) flowers on top! What flavors were your cakes? (I want to eat cake vicariously through this post).

Soooo, I may have just stalked your posts when I saw your wedding was in MD….. Would you be willing to share your thoughts on the caterer? (email, so as not to publicly bash is cool)

You see, I am just starting the whole “planning” schtick, and it means a lot to me to have a local/organic/ethical caterer for less than harvesting a kidney. It looks like you had the same focus & was wondering if you would share who you went with that you were less impressed with (and why) and if there was someone you wish you would have gone with? You know, since we are in/wedding-in Maryland, and… well, because you are awesome? With cherry on top?!?!
